This comforting bowl of porridge comes with well-seasoned minced pork and crispy golden you tiao (dough fritters)It is so savoury that you really don’t need any additional soy sauce or pepper for seasoning. You should give this one a try and even add an egg (+S$0.50) for extra flavour.

You wouldn’t be able to find pancakes with maple syrup in a coffee shop. But if you love sweet things, maybe Min Jiang Kueh (S$1.40) from 137 Market Pancake is something you can try for breakfast.

It’s warm, soft and contains generous portions of peanut and red bean paste that’s almost falling out of the pancake. Not only can you have it for breakfast, but you can also buy it back for tea break too!

This wouldn’t be a hawker breakfast list if carrot cake isn’t on it. Song Han‘s Carrot Cake (S$3) is definitely one of the best carrot cakes I have tried.

Song Han Carrot Cake churns out orders daily, and the queue is long even on a weekday morning. Their secret ingredient is shrimp, which gives this savoury dish a subtle hint of sweetness and adds a crunchy texture to it.

7. Fried Beehoon (Hup Lee Fried Beehoon, #01-16)

Breakfast Tampines Round Market 11

Fried beehoon is another hawker breakfast staple which I tend to go for, simply because I get to choose the ingredients I want to go with the noodles.

When I’m at Tampines Round Market & Food Centre, I always go for Hup Lee’Fried Beehoon, with a fried egg, luncheon meat and crispy beancurd skin, for S$3. This combination can never go wrong for me, and it comes in a pretty substantial portion.

One of the best breakfast meals you can get at Tampines Round Market & Food Centre is the Lor Mee (S$3) from 137 Lor Mee. Lor mee is a Chinese noodle dish consisting of flat yellow noodles in a bowl of thick gravy, usually topped with an egg and fried fish.

I usually add vinegar, chilli and garlic to my bowl of noodles for a little more heat. The noodles were chewy, and the warm and savoury bowl came with a generous amount of marinated fried fish.
