We all know that Playmade by 丸作 makes some of the most amazing bubble tea pearls out there. Their recent Purple Sweet Potato Pearls impressed me with how uniquely earthy and decadent they were. Ever since then, I’ve been a huge fan.
This time, Playmade has kicked it up a notch with the release of their all-new Pokémon-inspired Pokeboba Pearls! You can complete your favourite Playmade drinks with these new pearls, now available only at the pop-up Shilin Night Market.
If you haven’t already realised, these adorable and exclusive Pokeboba Pearls (S$1/S$1.50) are meant to resemble Poké Balls. With the pearls’ red, white and black hues, die-hard Pokémon fans will surely get the reference.
They use charcoal and normal pearl doughs to create the black and translucent portions of the pearls.
As for the red hue, it turns out that they actually use their signature pink cactus dough! The pearls burst with a familiar sweetness every time I chewed on them.
Furthermore, they also had the signature chewiness that Playmade’s handmade pearls are well-known for. This made them all the more irresistible and addictive.
That said, these Pokeboba Pearls aren’t Playmade’s only exclusive items in the Shilin Night Market. So why not give their Taiwan Milk Tea (S$3/S$5) a try too? They’ve specially brought it all the way from Taiwan.
Delightfully, this Taiwanese milk tea was actually one of the better milk teas I’ve had. It had the right amount of sweetness, which meant I could happily sip on it without feeling jelak.
Not only that, but its velvety consistency was also very soothing to the throat. This was especially helpful in the sweltering humidity of the mostly open-air market.
So as you battle through the crowds for the best bargains and the best photos, don’t forget to stop by Playmade.
Who knows, ingesting their Pokeboba Pearls might actually help you catch that shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO?
