Japan is known for its quirky and creative eateries such as a ninja-themed restaurant, a Pom Pom Purin restaurant and even a vampire-themed cafe. At SHOGUN BURGER in Tokyo, the theme is a lot more traditional.
SHOGUN BURGER—as the name suggests—sells burgers as their main dish. That may not sound like much, but what if you could eat your burger with a samurai sword?
Here’s a little insight into SHOGUN BURGER’s scrumptious burgers. Succulent and grilled to perfection, the patty is made with 100% Japanese beef that utilises the know-how of a well-established yakiniku restaurant.
The buns are made with 100% domestic wheat and are baked fresh in the store, giving them a soft and fluffy texture.
But the perfect finish to the burger has definitely got to be the sauce. SHOGUN BURGER’s sauce is the perfect condiment for a beef patty.
For the burgers, the burger is called the Honnoji no Hen Burger, named after Honnoji no Hen, or “The Honnoji Incident“, which was the forced suicide of daimyo Oda Nobunaga by his samurai general Akechi Mitsuhide in 1582.
Now for the fun part. There are two varieties of swords available—the Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
A little background about the two swords: Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582) and Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616) were allies and two of the country’s most famous samurai. Tokugawa went on to become the first shogun of a dynasty that would span the years from 1600 – 1868.
The swords at SHOGUN BURGER are supposedly created by a master craftsman after a lot of time and care.
SHOGUN BURGER plates the swords as if they’re hamburger picks but these miniature swords can also be used as knives to slice through the burger. Do take note that only 350 swords have been created and they’re available only for a limited time from now until 3 February 2020!
If you’re trying to order the set (JP￥4,300) which includes a Honnoji Incident Burger or Cheeseburger, a drink, fries and the miniature sword, it is only available via reservation on Japanese crowdfunding site Makuake. As for the sword, it is also available on its own for JP￥2,728.
