The popular food site, HungryGoWhere, has been bought and relaunched by Grab Singapore, announced through a Grab Singapore press release on 15 June 2022.
The brand, which operated for 15 years before it went offline on 11 July 2021, has returned after almost a year since its cessation.
According to Grab Singapore, the HungryGoWhere site aims to be the one-stop platform that delves into the local food scene through food reviews, recommendations, profile interviews and behind-the-scenes explorations.
The relaunched site will also leverage Grab’s superapp data to derive insights, such as food trends and popular dining places in Singapore.
The new HungryGoWhere will retain its name and notable red colour, but also undergo a revamp to include new series, including the 20 Questions With interview series with notable people in the F&B sector. The first episode features an interview with the co-founders of Two Men Bagel House, Jereborne Lam and Jerome Lam.
Another series on the HungryGoWhere site is From Scratch, a series that explores the origins of popular foods, as well as how they are made, with Kim Guan Guan Coffee Trading being featured in the first episode.
HungryGoWhere was founded in 2006 by Mr Wong Hoong An, Mr Dennis Goh and Mr Tan Yung Yih, and grew to become a popular food review site offering other services like dining deals and rewards and restaurant reservations.
In May 2012, Singtel acquired HungryGoWhere’s parent company, GTW Holdings, for S$12 million, and merged it with their own food and lifestyle site, inSing.com, which later ceased its operations in 2019.
Later, HungryGoWhere would cease operations too in July 2021. According to Singtel, the brand had faced challenges pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With HungryGoWhere being a huge part of Singapore’s food culture, it is exciting to see them return and I can’t wait to see what they’ll put out.
