Japan is known to many as the land of the rising Sun, and more recently the land of kawaii (cute) things. With CATBAKE, you can experience the country’s daintiness in the form of a cat-themed cafe alongside (you guessed it) cat-shaped carbs. It quietly opened on 20 Dec 2022 at The Star Vista.

CATBAKE is co-founded by Chef Shinya who unsurprisingly created the Japanese bakery chain Neko Neko Shokupan in 2019. They are known for selling feline-shaped loaves that went viral on the internet.

Apart from how they look, they were also popular because of their taste as they were made with Japanese-grown wheat flour, milk and honey. It even comes with different flavours such as Plain and Cheese with special seasonal flavours being announced on their social media pages.

There was even a home-based business here that tried imitating the cat loaves!

Some of the ways you can enjoy the kitty-shaped goods are Cat French Toast & Single Scoop Gelato (S$7.90)Cat Chocolate Cake (S$28) and Cat Cheesecake (S$28).

You can even get savoury options such as The Croque Monsieur (S$4.50) or the Pizza Sausage (S$4.90). Of course, their signature Neko Neko Shokupan also makes an appearance though its price is unconfirmed.

They also have conventional baked goods such as Croissants (S$3.90), Almond Croissants (S$4.90)Kougin Amman (S$4.30) and Almond Strawberry Chocolate (S$5.40).

You could opt for their tarts in differing flavours like Original (S$6)Dark (S$6)Lemon (S$7) and Ruby (S$7).

Their chocolate bonbons from their sub-company, CACAOCAT, also make an appearance with flavours such as Salted Milk, Orange, Matcha, Choco Mint, Caramel, Banana, WhiteYuzu and Hojicha at S$2 per piece.

Do we have any takers for a dog-themed cafe next?
