The last year has seen periodic shortages of chicken and eggs in Malaysia, and soaring prices for foodstuff. Small business owners often worry about rising rent, the cost of raw materials, and inflation. But one Malaysian seller has not upped his prices for the past 7 years and has kept them as low as RM0.10.

35-year-old Idham Syafiq Darmilus has been selling homemade doughnuts since 2016. According to mStar, he came up with the idea as a way to earn extra income and give back to society, especially to those in need.

The idea of the RM0.10 doughnut first originated from Idham’s sister-in-law. She first began selling it but then stopped, so Idham and his wife decided to take over the business. Today, he sells at least 2,000 doughnuts a day.

He uses 2kg of flour a day for his doughnuts. In 2016, a kilogram of wheat flour cost him just RM1.60. However, the same amount now sets him back RM3.50.

Their stall is located near a school in Kampung Baru Kuala Abang and the students are regular customers. According to Idham, many customers had shared that they were surprised by how much he was charging, and had even encouraged him to increase his prices.

Idham still insists on keeping the price at RM0.10 and has even maintained the size of the doughnut since 2016. Kudos to him!
