Merely Ice Cream at Sunshine Plaza to close in estimated early Jul 2023

After a solid 11 years of operation, Merely Ice Cream located at Sunshine Plaza will cease operations in early Jul 2023.

Merely Ice Cream had broken this heartbreaking news on both Instagram and Facebook. In the posts, they informed customers of the tough decision and hoped that customers could post their experiences online for nostalgia’s sake.

The devastation could be seen on everyone’s comments— from disbelief to enquiries about the date of closure. Having contacted them on that topic, Merely Ice Cream mentioned that the closure would occur around end May to early Jul, with the specifics to be determined later.

The reasoning behind the closure was said to be the rental costs, which were taking a heavy toll on the business. As Singapore’s costs skyrockets, it seems that many businesses are struggling with the same issue.

Now that the Covid situation is getting better, the food industry’s pace is slowly moving forward. However, certain costs are increasing at a speed that businesses cannot catch up with, leading to such closures happening. For both consumers and business owners, this makes for disheartening news.

Merely Ice Cream offers an array of fan-favourite flavours, with classics like Roasted Pistachio or strange ones like Grape Yakult Yogurt. What is certain is that Merely receives lots of love, especially for their affordability. It is easy to see why, as some of their ice creams are at S$4 a scoop.

On a happy note, their second outlet at Our Tampines Hub will remain open, becoming their primary outlet after the closure. Merely Ice Cream will not be gone for good, to many folks’ relief.
