Mr Derrick Heng, an ex-ITE lecturer who taught Asian cuisine for 11 years has moved on to greener pastures. He is now the proud owner of his very own kopitiam stall called Heng Ah Roasted Delight situated at Toa Payoh Central, which officially opened on 14 Apr 2023.

Since young, Mr Heng always yearned to open up an F&B business and was always seeking opportunities to start.

Before his career at the ITE, he had worked at Shangri-La Hotel as well as Resorts World Sentosa for a total of 9.5 years… but guess what? He was actually doing Western cuisine all those years.

He learnt the ropes of Asian cuisine from his colleagues who were from the Asian section and also taught himself.

The bulk of his menu features an assortment of rice, noodle and hor fun dishes revolving around his range of meats. I recommend giving his Poached Chicken Rice (S$4.50) or Soya Sauces Chicken Rice (S$4.50) a go as he learnt the art of making the aromatic rice from Shangri-La.

Mr Heng’s popular dishes also include Roasted Pork Noodles (S$5.50), Roasted Duck Hor Fun (S$6) and Soya Sauces Chicken Rice (S$4.50). Don’t forget to add on a Braised Egg (S$1) or Braised Beancurd (S$1) for more flavours.

You can also get a piping hot bowl of Dumpling Soup (S$5.50) or Wanton Soup (S$5) to wash it all down, and a plate of Oyster Sauce Vegetable (S$4) to complete your meal.

Those who are interested in purchasing a Whole Roasted Duck for special occasions can get one for S$48 or a Half Roasted Duck at S$26.

Come pay Mr Heng a visit if you’re at the vicinity of Toa Payoh. I’m definitely dragging my colleagues along as our office is situated nearby. Hurrah!
