Highly acclaimed for their signature ‘super spicy’ chilli wanton noodles, Dunman Road Char Siew Wanton Mee at Eunos Crescent has relocated to Geylang and resides in Xing Lian Coffeeshop

Allow me to provide some background context for those new to the brand. In Mar 2019, famed hawker stall Dunman Char Siew Wanton Mee located in Dunman Food Centre opened a second branch in Eunos. The same recipe is used in both outlets and both stall owners are family members.

More recently, the Eunos outlet has recently relocated to Geylang. However, the business experienced a drop in sales after this move, possibly caused by slow crowds in the morning. Inevitably, operating hours were adjusted and the stall now operates from 11am to 9pm.

Personally, I am not a fan of the popular hawker dish. They were often served with overcooked noodles and measly shreds of char siew (barbecued pork). However, Dunman Road Char Siew Wanton Mee offers a better rendition, especially to those who enjoy super spicy food!

The stall specialises in only 1 item on the menu — Wanton Noodles — at 3 sizes: S$4, S$4.50 and $5.

As a spice lover, I was immediately drawn to the orange-red chilli paste which bore a sharp contrast in colour and stood out against the purple plate. With the option to choose from Normal or Super Spicy, this information may provide some assurance to our friends with lower spice tolerance.

With slightly thicker handmade egg noodles, the cooking time may be slightly extended, which prevents the noodles from becoming overcooked and thereafter, soggy. A QQ (chewy) bite is often achieved when indulging in this plate of wanton noodles.

Unfortunately, the thin slices of lean char siew featured in the plate of wanton noodles continue to be the main reason why I do not eat the dish regularly.

In every opportunity given to add crispy pork lard to your dishes, grab it. As the boss only includes these nuggets of gold upon special requests, remember to ask for your portion the next time you order.

With their extended operating hours, one can drop by even after office hours to grab a plate of that fiery goodness to round off the day!
