I love soybean products — from soymilk to sweet or savoury beancurd bowls and all things tofu. So, no surprises that I was stoked when I discovered newly opened hawker stall DDSD Dessert at Hong Lim Complex

The base of this dessert bowl — the soybean pudding — is freshly made daily. Possessing a bouncy and jelly-like form, the silky smooth pudding does not contain any preservatives or gypsum powder.

The integrity in freshly making the pudding is displayed through the brand’s IG posts. They posted a video on how soybeans are ground with water to create a milky soybean stream that is collected in a huge bucket.

On their menu list, the Soya Milk (S$1.60) and Original Beancurd (S$1.60) are the most basic items offered by the young husband and wife team.

While many of us are familiar and satisfied with just the inclusion of sugar syrup or soy milk poured into our regular soybean pudding, the plethora of pudding flavours and toppings offered by DDSD Dessert makes this soybean hut the most unique one I have come across.

As an avid fan of black sesame flavoured items, I was naturally drawn to the Black Sesame Beancurd (S$2.10) and Black Sesame Sauce Beancurd (S$2.40). While the former features a black sesame infused beancurd pudding, the latter includes the regular soybean pudding topped with black sesame paste.

Alternative sweeteners including Ginger Sugar, Gula Melaka and Chrysanthemum Sugar are also available for an additional S$0.50

L.E. Cafe Confectionery & Pastry: Nostalgic old-school bakery’s original Beancurd Tarts are a must-try

You can choose from a long list of toppings to fully customise your dessert bowl. Among your choices are Grass Jelly, Glutinous Rice Balls, Peanuts and Longan, all available at different prices.

With an increasing number of hawker stalls offering customisable and unique twists on local favourites, I simply cannot help but jump onto the bandwagon myself!
