F&B closures have unfortunately become the norm nowadays, with the same few reasons almost always to blame. For Ah Hoe Cooked Food in Mei Ling Market and Food Centre, the story is rather solemn as the beloved hawker passed on recently after combating a prolonged illness.

Ah Hoe Cooked Food may not be a recognisable name for most people, considering their lack of a social media presence. However, the locals at Mei Ling Food Centre are aware of the spot-on chee cheong fun and silverfish porridge Ah Hoe Cooked Food sold.

The news of this closure was not publicised widely. Rather, it came from a simple Facebook post, with the user wondering where this particular stall had disappeared to. Then, Facebook user Andrew Ong revealed the story behind the closure.

Andrew is the son of the hawkers who ran the stall, which makes such news reliable. He revealed that his father had been sick for a while and passed away in late Mar. Several frequent customers commented that they had heard of the stall uncle’s health problems.

Auntie was extremely reluctant to close Ah Hoe Cooked Food for good, and tried to run the stall singlehandedly. Alas, things don’t always go the way we want, and it proved to be too taxing. Thus, Auntie decided to return the stall to the National Environment Agency (NEA).

Andrew proceeded to thank all his parents’ customers, and expressed his appreciation for the touching support his parents received over the years. The touching comments wishing Auntie a pleasant rest and condolences for her husband’s passing truly make for a bittersweet moment.

Despite our despair at losing yet fantastic food spot, the fact that Auntie will be taking a well-deserved break is more important. Many thanks to Ah Hoe Cooked Food for providing Mei Ling Food Centre with delights made with heart. We wish Auntie and her family a pleasant rest.
