The F&B industry has always been insanely competitive. And what better way to compete for customers than to lower prices? 3 Tampines cai fan stalls — Lao Ban Niang Jia Chang Cai 老板娘家常菜, Feng Sheng Teochew Porridge & Rice 丰晟饭莊(潮州糜) and Chang Cheng Chinese Vegetable Rice have done just that, with their prices dropping to as low as S$2 per meal.

With all 3 in the Tampines area, tension is high to snatch as many customers as possible with their low prices. This marketing strategy is working well well for our classic Singaporean thrifty mindset.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Feng Sheng Teochew Porridge & Rice at Everyday Come Coffee Shop at Block 477 Tampines Street 43 began the price competition. Starting in 2022, this cai fan joint started selling their 2 Veggie, 1 Meat Set at S$2.70.

Mr He wanted to provide more affordable choices to cater to elderly folk. Some of the discounted ingredients are the usual classics like Kung Pao Chicken and Ginger and Scallion Pork.

Chang Cheng Chinese Vegetable Rice then revealed their plan to obtain more regulars by implementing a series of new promotions. One of them is their 2 Vegetable + 1 Meat cai fan set at S$2.50.

Some of you may already be frequent customers here, thanks to its convenient location in Happy Hawker at Block 478 Tampines Street 44. Looking at the assortment of dishes available definitely makes even the most kiasu Singaporeans think that the deal is worth it.

Have you ever seen a cai fan set of 2 Vegetables and 1 Meat for S$2? That’s exactly what Lao Ban Niang Jia Chang Cai has, which is the lowest price among the 3 stalls. The boss reported that there had been almost a full 10% increase in customers, showing that the strategy had tremendous success. This stall is also in the same Everyday Come Coffee Shop as Feng Sheng.

Of course, more costly dishes that use ingredients such as eggs and eggplant come at a higher price.

Tampines sure is a haven for budget meals, and even more so thanks to these 3 cai fan stalls. Hey, it’s cheap! Not much to hate on from me, especially since inflation is on the rise.
