Unfortunately for bread lovers across the country, the popular Japanese bakery, Asanoya Boulangerie, has officially shut all of its outlets islandwide. Not to fret, though, for they aren’t completely gone— Asanoya Boulangerie will be rebranding itself as Kamome Bakery – Simply, Daily, in collaboration with the existing Kamome Bakery.

Asanoya Boulangerie first made the announcement via its social media on 2 Jan, in which it welcomed fans to bid farewell to the beloved brand. On 6 Jan, Asanoya Boulangerie stated that all of its outlets would shut from 9 Jan onwards, and continued to tease their rebrand.

On 14 Jan, the company revealed that it had collaborated with Kamome Bakery, another popular Japanese bakery in Singapore, and would be known as Kamome Bakery – Simply, Daily moving forward.

The original Kamome Bakery also shared the news on its Instagram page. On 18 Jan, the new bakery officially opened its doors in Paragon.

One of the pastries to be sold at the new bakery is the Cube, which is a cubic croissant stuffed with fillings like Rum Raisin, Berry, Yam and even Red Bean Green Tea. From 18 to 25 Jan, the bakery will be having a special Buy 1 Free 1 promotion on their Cube series with a minimum spend of S$10 per receipt.

As someone who used to frequent Asanoya Boulangerie, I do hope that their popular and iconic bakes will still be available. Asanoya Boulangerie was known for its multitude of adorable animal-shaped buns, including seals, tortoises, pandas and lions. It would also frequently launch seasonal baked goods in unique flavours— most recently, for Christmas 2023, it launched products like snowman-shaped buns and cheese tarts decorated to look like deers.

I also anticipate for Kamome Bakery’s goods to be available at the new outlet. This Japanese bakery has made a name for itself by producing delicious and high quality pies, loaves, pastries and buns that have impressed customers for years.
