With the immense popularity of Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe and the highly-anticipated opening of JB-famous Oriental Kopi slated for Q3 2024, it seems like we Singaporeans can’t get enough of retro-style kopitiams. If you’re in the same boat, listen up! Joining their ranks is Ipoh Town Kopitiam, which will soon open in Jewel Changi Airport.

Ipoh Town Kopitiam is Singapore’s newest traditional kopitiam concept. As its name suggests, it spotlights the delicacies of Ipoh, AKA one of Malaysia’s renowned culinary cities. The brainchild of an Ipoh-hailing sister duo, it boasts a menu designed to showcase the authentic flavours of their hometown.

Nestled in the basement of the bustling Jewel Changi Airport, the establishment is set to dazzle the tastebuds of many. While an official date for its grand opening has yet to be confirmed, you can expect to see its doors open soon enough. In the meantime, do keep your eyes peeled for updates on their Instagram page!

At the same time, let’s also take a look at some of the delicious offerings you can look forward to.

For starters, you’ll find quintessential breakfast staples such as the classic Kaya Butter Toast and Fragrant Curry Toast with Soft Boiled Egg, which stars soft-boiled egg atop a fluffy yet crispy piece of toast doused with luscious curry.

Other menu highlights include the Fried Turnip Cake, which places an unconventional spin on our beloved carrot cake, and the Ipoh “Overjoy” White Coffee, brewed from a meticulously refined recipe.

And onto the mains. If you’re torn for choice, head straight for the hearty Nasi Ayam Goreng Berempah. This iconic Malaysian dish features fragrant coconut rice served with a whole crispy fried chicken thigh that’s seasoned with more than 10 different spices. This dish is an absolute must-try.

An extensive menu isn’t the only thing that’s in store for you, though! Ipoh Town Kopitiam will also offer the famed Egg Tarts from Choy Kee Bakery. For the uninitiated, Choy Kee is a renowned Ipoh household brand, and this exclusive collaboration marks their first venture outside of Malaysia.

You definitely don’t want to miss out on your share of these egg tarts. Not convinced? Let the perpetual queues in Malaysia speak for it.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ll be counting down the days to Ipoh Town Kopitiam’s opening.
