With rising food prices, we are always looking for good food deals. Meet Yindii — a new app that allows everyday folks to purchase unsold food for up to 80% off the retail price. Yindii has partnered with Delifrance, SaladStop! and many more to provide the best deals.

Customers can order their surprise bags through the Yindii app during opening hours. Pop by the store at the designated time and be treated to an assortment of goodies for a reasonable price. These options change daily, depending on whatever food items remain unsold.

Thus far, these stores have reported about 4 – 5% reduction in food waste. Baker & Cook have begun offering 2 to 4 surprise boxes per day at their Serangoon Garden and Bugis outlets.

Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Ms Mahima Rajangam Natarajan spoke to Straits Times on her choice to launch the app in Singapore. She believes that Singapore is a “forward-thinking city” that focuses on “sustainability and reducing food waste”.

She also states that the Yindii app has helped its partners clear up to 80% of their daily surplus food since its launch in 2020. To date, this initiative has helped to offset more than 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. This proves that the efforts are effective and, over time, will have an overall positive impact on our environment.

Locally, they experienced a slow start. Over time, Yindii began earning a name for itself and is piquing the interest of locals.

Despite being new to Singapore, the app has been available in Hong Kong and Thailand since its launch.

Paul, a cafe franchise, has witnessed a 10% increase in interest towards their surprise bags. Other participating stores are experiencing an increase of about 5%.

According to the National Environment Agency, 11% of all waste generated in Singapore last year comprised food waste. As Singaporeans, we should play our part to support these new initiatives and be better consumers.
