A few years back, popular Muslim-owned stall Nurul Delights in Bukit Batok made the headlines for their affordable Malay dishes, loved by the area’s residents. For those living in Jurong East, you’ll be glad to hear that they recently opened a new outlet at PDSS 318 Food Cafeteria on 31 Jan!
A Muslim family-run stall named after their daughter, Nurul Delights has always aimed to provide hearty food at low prices on behalf of the community. Halipah Bte Kadir, the founder of the original stall in Bukit Batok, was even reluctant to raise prices on behalf of their elderly customers. She finally did so after much persuasion from her children, which, at S$3.50 (Bukit Batok outlet price), are still considered quite cheap.
The new stall’s Nasi Lemak, Mee Siam, Mee Soto and Mee Rebus are all priced at an impressively low S$3. It’s definitely a steal especially in this current economy where prices and service charges are rising due to inflation. Add-ons such as bergedil, egg and fried chicken wings are also available for those looking for a more filling portion at Nurul Delights.
True to their word, everything else falls below S$3. Epok Epok/Curry Puffs are also sold at just S$1 each, while a box of Kuih-Muih only costs S$1.50.
The Block 318 outlet will be Nurul Delights’ third stall, with its first two existing outlets based in Bukit Batok. The first is operated by Halipah and her husband, while her daughter Nurul and her husband run the second. It was also Nurul who suggested Jurong East as her newest location upon noticing the senior residents who might be in need of affordable food.
Nurul Delights also opened their first school canteen stall in Qihua Primary School on 3 Feb. Run by Halipah’s son Fadil and his wife, they sell healthier versions of the stall’s signature dishes.
The family’s bond runs strong even when it comes to their business! It’s inspiring how Nurul Delights’ love for food and the community has manifested in the positive impression they’ve made on others.
