The world’s thinnest flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, launched today, 13 May 2025. Feather-light at just 163 grams, it is perfect if you want cutting-edge specs without sacrificing screen size or speed.

We predicted a May 2025 release for the then-rumoured ‘Galaxy Slim’ in January.

Samsung S25 Edge release - S25 Ultra vs S25 Edge

Samsung has managed to shave 30% off the thickness and 27% off the weight compared to the Samsung S25 Ultra (above).

These weight and size savings are achieved without sacrificing the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 2,600 nits peak brightness, Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 1-120Hz (LTPO) refresh rate or IP68 water resistance rating it shares with the rest of the Samsung Galaxy S25 family (S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra).

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also equals the 6.7″ QHD+ screen of the Galaxy S25 Plus.

If you fear a phone so slim and svelte would become a scratch magnet, Samsung is one step ahead. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is the first in their entire range to sport the all-new Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, surpassing even the S25 Ultra’s Gorilla Glass Armor 2. Slip it into a crowded (aren’t they all) handbag or pocketful of change, no problem.

The trade-off for its ultra-thin design is a 3,900mAh battery, the smallest in the S25 lineup. Paired with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging, and the proven efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, though, only the heaviest of heavy users will find this a limitation.

Camera-side, the S25 Ultra’s 200MP main sensor with optical image stabilisation makes a reappearance, accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide lens with a 120-degree field of view.

While it skips a dedicated telephoto lens, the high-resolution main camera enables “optical-like” 2X zoom, AI-enhanced 10X zoom, and 4K 120fps video with Log format support. Its 12MP front camera is common to the S25 range.

So, who is this for?

Me, you and everyone else. When I slipped the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge into my front trouser pocket, it felt as if I was happy to see no one and there was only half a phone in there. In my hands, it was hard to believe but it weighed the same as a bag of chips.

If you have ever felt that your smartphone is too cumbersome for your hand or pocket, this is the perfect alternative. Don’t be surprised if this launch triggers a series of copycat releases from Samsung’s competitors.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is available in Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black and Titanium Icy Blue.

Priced at S$1,808 S$1,628 (free upgrade to the 512GB model for the price of the 256GB), the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge sits between the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra, offering a compelling blend of portability and premium features.

While its slimness limits battery size and omits a telephoto lens, the Galaxy S25 Edge is a bold statement for those who value a lightweight, stylish device that still packs flagship performance. Pre-orders are open, with sales starting on 30 May 2025.
