In recent months, Wanglee Cafe at 92 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh has been gaining a lot of online attention from mainstream media posts. It has reached a point where the once rather secluded cafe, known for its dry mee hoon kueh and cosy seating, now draws long queues during peak periods.

If you happen to be a regular who stays near the central area, you can now save on transport fees. They’ve just opened their 2nd outlet at Sunshine Plaza, where Victor’s Kitchen and Ichi Tei Japanese Dining reside. Does that mean that the Toa Payoh outlet will be slightly emptier now? I certainly hope so. Please, crowd, disperse!
A menu pricing review reveals that costs at the new town location are marginally higher than the original heartlands outlet, a discrepancy common to the geographical shift. Additionally, the new menu features several exclusive dishes.

Curry is such a versatile dish and goes well with everything, but pairing it with bread is simply divine. I had a smile on my face when I spotted Curry Chicken with French Loaf (S$7.80) being offered on the menu, one of their new additions.

It comes with a chicken drumstick and potatoes. The thick slabs of grilled baguette were perfect for dunking into the flavourful curry, letting it absorb and penetrate every crevice for maximum satisfaction.

Another newcomer is the Kicap Manis Chicken Rice (S$7.80), that comes with plain rice, a chicken drumstick doused in a sweet and savoury kicap manis sauce, and in-house made achar. For those who love bee hoon, there’s Mee Siam Goreng (S$5.90) available.

The signature menu items like the Dry You Mee (S$6.50) with a soft-boiled egg, ikan bilis, and beancurd skin rolls maintains the same delicious standard as their OG Toa Payoh outlet.

There’s also the Home Made Kaya Butter Toast Set (S$6.20) that comes with 2 soft boiled eggs and hot coffee/tea. Have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or anytime in-between. I can devour it at any hour of the day!

The bread is nicely grilled to a crisp, encasing kaya with fragrant pandan notes that perfectly complements the rich slabs of butter within. My only complaint? I wish the butter was thicker!

To indulge a little, upgrade your Home Made Kaya Butter Toast Set by switching up your hot coffee or tea for these messy but beautiful cold Volcano Kopi and Volcano Teh Peng at an additional S$2 (S$3.50 for à la carte).

While the official operating hours are still pending finalisation, the outlet will maintain an interim schedule of 8am to 7pm for the remainder of this week.
If you happen to be in the Bencoolen or Dhoby Ghaut area and your stomach is rumbling, why not swing by the all-new Wanglee Cafe at Sunshine Plaza for lip-smacking Nanyang cuisine?
