After 5 years of silence, Mum’s Place is officially reopening in Petaling Jaya. The cult favourite Peranakan eatery is making a comeback on 27 Jan, and it almost feels like your favourite aunt and uncle are finally returning from a very long holiday.

A long standing PJ legend, Mum’s Place is known for its comforting, home style dishes rooted in Peranakan cooking

Its return — led by the same owner and chef, and likely featuring many of the familiar recipes diners remember — has been eagerly anticipated by the Damansara Perdana community.

Popular menu items include Sambal Petai Cencaru, Sambal Sotong, Assam Pedas Parit Jawa Jenahak, Fang Shee Yip, Mum’s Sago Gula Melaka, and other traditional recipes that reflect a blend of Malay, Portuguese, Nyonya, Indian, and Chinese influences.

The reopening was teased via the restaurant’s official Instagram page, with a brief message hinting at a new beginning.

The news was received with strong interest from diners, many of whom had assumed the 2021 closure was permanent. This also signals a new chapter for a restaurant that has remained firmly embedded in the local dining scene.

The team later confirmed that Mum’s Place has relocated to a new address in Damansara Perdana, approximately 450m from its former location, next to Pasta Boy.

A few more Instagram posts soon followed, reinforcing the reopening news and keeping excitement building among fans.

Do note that reservations are currently accepted via phone calls only. The restaurant does not take bookings through WhatsApp or social media direct messages, as seating is limited and demand has been overwhelmingly high.

And isn’t that just heartwarming? It goes to show that when food is prepared with care and a real sense of community, the support never quite disappears. Make sure to drop a call soon if you’re keen on joining the party!
