Hung Huat Cakes & Pastries has opened a new kitchen, hooray for quicker order fulfilment!

This new kitchen, which opened on 17 May, marks the 50th anniversary of the bakery’s establishment. It is an effort to allow the main store at Sims Vista Market & Food Centre to complete orders more quickly and fulfil the high demand for its pastries.

While the new kitchen at Lim Tua Tow Rd currently does not accept walk-in purchases or pick-ups, Hung Huat Cakes & Pastries revealed that they plan to offer this option in the future.

The bakery, which has been around since 1976, specialises in traditional delicacies such as the Assorted Nonya Kuehs (S$5.50) and Ondeh Ondeh (S$10.50 for 3 boxes).

You can also find festive bakes such as pineapple tarts during CNY and mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In fact, their mooncakes are so popular that orders sometimes close early!

When it comes to snacks, bakeries often fall on either of two ends: strictly traditional or fully modernised. Despite originating as a traditional brand, Hung Huat Cakes & Pastries achieves the best of both worlds by adapting its snacks to modern trends!

For instance, their Mochi Piah, which comes in different flavours, combines the traditional piah —  a flaky pastry — with mochi!

Also known as Sim’s Place Bakery, the business has been operating for 3 generations! The business began on a pushcart, with the first generation owners, Mr and Mrs Sim, selling Mian Jian Kueh on the streets. Subsequently, they moved to Sims Vista Market & Food Centre and have remained there ever since.

For a taste of Hung Huat Cakes & Pastries, you could place an order through their website or drop by their main store at Sims Place. If you’re planning to visit their main store, take note that it’ll be closed for 2-3 weeks in Jun 2026.

For those purchasing high-demand items like mooncakes, it is best to pre-order before stocks run out, so the website is your best bet.

I can't cook, but I can eat and tell you if the food is good. I love almost everything that goes with coriander, spring onions or vinegar, but absolutely hate ginger and garlic.
