Recipes take time, effort, and sometimes failures before they can truly be perfected. If you’ve spotted Krispi Chinese Roti popping up at Bagus Food Halls across Singapore, you might be wondering what all the hype is about.

Here’s a fun fact — its founder, Chef Ma, dedicated over three decades to perfecting his craft — combining precise dough-stretching techniques with a multi-layer folding process to yield crisp, golden-brown wheels of deliciousness.

Now, that’s what I call hard work and dedication.

Krispi Chinese Roti has recently opened its latest outlet within Kopitiam Food Hall at Hillion Mall (aren’t you glad it’s not in the East for once?). Diners get a front-row seat to the action as skilled Chinese Muslim artisans handcraft fresh batches of signature beef and chicken roti.

Each piece is lovingly rolled by hand, a challenging task where the delicate dough is hand-stretched and folded with patience. Each ingredient is then meticulously layered, cradling succulent and tender meat, seasoned with a secret blend of freshly-grounded spices. Every fold is intentional, striking the perfect balance between texture and flavour. What you get is flaky roti that crackles on the outside followed by a mouth-watering meat filling.

Choose between Original Chicken Roti (S$4.50) and Original Beef Roti (S$5). For those who prefer a hit of fieriness, spicy versions are available, too.

Krispi Chinese Roti is in the midst of obtaining its official Halal certification so that its great flavour can be shared across an even wider audience. If you’re a Bukit Panjang resident, why not swing by Hillion Mall and give it a try?
