Geylang Lorong 29 has just been blessed with a newly-minted JFD 家啡店 Coffeeshop, situated right next to Masjid Khadijah Mosque and just opposite JB Ah Meng Restaurant. Some of you may be squealing with excitement upon noticing the words ‘24 hours‘ on the 10-stall kopitiam‘s signage. But, before you get your hopes up, please note that the drinks stall is the only one that’s currently open for 24 hours. Rest assured that I’ll update should there be any changes to that.

jfd coffeeshop geylang - wokao

If you’re a fan of mouthwatering Northeastern Chinese skewers that are seasoned with aromatic cumin and other spices, then Wokao! is the perfect place to swing by.

The menu features over 25 varieties of BBQ chuan chuan, with prices ranging from S$1 to S$5 per skewer. Each skewer is carefully grilled over a charcoal fire to smoky perfection.

Besides Beef, Chicken, and Pork Skewers, the Pork Belly, Grilled Sausage, Potato Slices, Mantou, Shiitake Mushroom, Zucchini, and King Oyster Mushroom all cost just S$1 per stick. There are also pricier options (if you want to give yourself a treat) like Pork Belly Enoki Roll (S$1.50), Chicken Wing (S$2), Shisamo Fish (S$1.50), Grilled Garlic Scallop (S$4), and Grilled Squid (S$8).

I ordered some of the skewers and all I can is that they tasted really authentic and the meats were nice and tender. If you’re looking for dishes that can complement your skewers, order the Sichuan Pepper Chicken (S$10), Cold Cucumber Salad (S$6) and Stir-Fried Tomato with Egg (S$8).

Another stall that piqued my interest with its charred fragrance is Chong Pang Huat.

jfd coffeeshop geylang - satay and chicken wings

You can savour scrumptious BBQ Chicken Wings for S$1.80 each (min. 2 pieces) or relish in a whole Spring Chicken (S$14). If satay is your favourite, then you can enjoy Chicken, Mutton, and Pork Satay at S$1 each (min. 10 sticks) and pair it with Ketupat (S$1) for a complete meal.

The BBQ Chicken Wings were tender and juicy, and dunking them into the citrusy chilli sauce took it up a notch.

jfd coffeeshop geylang - Western

Bored of Asian food? Thankfully, Western Chill offers 23 Western mains and 11 side dishes for you to explore. Tuck into plates of Creamy Bacon Pasta (S$6), Grilled Fish Pasta (S$7), Chicken Cutlet (S$7), and Fish & Chips (S$7).

Head to Lao San Kway Chap to feast on a bowl of Kway (S$0.80), then pair it with Pork Belly (S$3.50/S$7), Big Intestine (S$3.50/S$6) and Pig’s Skin (S$2/S$3). The menu also features Bak Kut Teh (S$6.50) and Meatball Soup (S$4).

For yummy roasted meats, Chin Kee 77 has you covered with Dang Gui Duck Rice (S$4.80), Char Siew & Roasted Pork Rice (S$6), and Chicken Drumstick Noodle (S$5.50). You can also check out Shahi Kabab Muslim Foods, Xing Long Fish Soup & Ban Mian, amongst other stalls.

Come mid-September, a Vietnamese stall will also be opening its doors.

If you’re around the Geylang neighbourhood, why not check out JFD Coffeeshop for new makan options?
