An abandoned building in Petaling Street has been transformed into Chinatown 1974, an 8-storey lifestyle hub in KL featuring Malaysian food, wellness treatments, a hotel, and an alcohol-free rooftop bar.
Chinatown 1974 is the latest addition to Kuala Lumpur’s historic Chinatown, turning the former vacant building along Jalan Petaling into a destination where you can eat, unwind, stay overnight, and end the day with rooftop city views.
Officially opened to the public on 5 Sep 2026, the heritage-inspired space brings together a mix of Malaysian dining, wellness, hospitality, and leisure experiences under one roof.
The lower levels are dedicated to food. On the Ground and Mezzanine Floors, HUAT n CO Kopitiam serves familiar Malaysian kopitiam favourites, while 31 Mansion Dimsum takes over Level 1 with an extensive dim sum selection.
Up on Level 2, Xi Ju Charcoal Hot Pot offers a more interactive dining experience centred around charcoal hot pot, making it a spot to settle into with friends and family.
After all that eating, Yang He Wellness Pavilion on Level 3 offers a chance to slow things down with its wellness-focused treatments.
Those looking to stay overnight can check into The Seven Stars Hotel, which occupies Levels 5 to 8. Guest rooms are spread across Levels 5 to 7, while the hotel lobby is located on Level 8.
The final stop is the rooftop, where Twilight Terrace offers an alcohol-free rooftop bar with views over the surrounding cityscape. It’s a fitting place to wind down after exploring the bustling streets below.
Beyond its mix of tenants, Chinatown 1974 is also an example of how old spaces in Petaling Street KL can be given a new purpose without completely losing their sense of place.
