Despite the borders between Singapore and Malaysia being opened, travelling to Malaysia is not an easy task. You have to deal with frequent traffic jams, especially during long weekends or holidays. It’s a shame too, as Malaysian cuisine is widely considered to be one of the best in Southeast Asia.

Fret not, Ah Fu and Co is here to bring you bowls of Malaysian goodness. Opened on 3 October 2022 along 27 Bendemeer Road, Ah Fu and Co takes Malaysian cuisine to another level by introducing a modern twist, all without sacrificing its comforting taste of familiarity.

Ah Fu and Co’s conception came about during Singapore’s lockdown in March 2020, when the owner, Ah Fu, was unable to return to his hometown in Malaysia. He was working under Chef Dee Chan, who was the then-head chef of Mott 32 and an influential television chef.

For two years, Ah Fu was unable to get a taste of home, and that drove him into replicating what he used to have back in his hometown. The two dishes that he recreated are the Dai Lok Mee (S$6.90) and Wok Fried Chow Mien (S$5.90). He was mentored by Chef Dee during this process.

To ensure the authenticity of the dishes, Ah Fu took two months off to return to Malaysia to find different mentors to best capture its taste. His secret recipe for the dishes lies in the broth, which takes 24 hours and requires attention every six hours. The broth, which is simmered alongside the wok fried chow mien and dai lok mee, includes ingredients such as giant prawn heads, scallops and pork bone.

Ah Fu is also planning to recreate more authentic dishes for our local scene, so if you’re ever feeling the Malaysian blues, do consider Ah Fu and Co!
