Frustration’s at an all-time high now; many are holding out hope, getting vaccinated, and urging those around them to get vaccinated so that we can move towards new steps quicker, yet we’re back in Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), following the rise in COVID-19 cases due to unfortunate clusters.
In order to reward those for getting their shot, F&B establishments have stepped in with promotions and deals for the partially or fully vaccinated alike. And right about last week, Gong Cha did the same. In order to qualify for a 50% discount off the bubble tea chain’s Green Tea with White Pearl (U.P. S$2.9o for Medium, S$3.90 for Large), patrons have to present their “Fully Vaccinated” status on their TraceTogether app.
“Discriminatory drinks company”
While some responded with glee about snagging half off their bubble tea, there were the less-than-enthused who took umbrage at the group-specific discount. “Don’t think I want to support a discriminatory drinks company. Thank goodness you are not located anywhere near me,” commented a Facebook user under Gong Cha’s promotional post.
Another user responded in accordance with the aforementioned user, terming the promotion a “distasteful promo stunt”.
What counts as “fully vaccinated”?
Apart from questions as to when the “Fully Vaccinated” status kicks in, there are others who are concerned about the validity of their vaccine.
“What about those people taking Sinovac? Their vaccination not shown in TraceTogether, but in Healthhub?” writes one Facebook user.
“Pissing off anti-vaxxers”
“Haven’t had bubble tea in a while but I guess I’ll get some because this post is pissing off anti-vaxxers and I’d love to see them cry like snowflakes. Time to get that 100% sugar” wrote one Facebook user.
This promotion is valid until 18 August 2021 and is redeemable at all outlets except SUTD, SMU, and Enabling Village.
