When people think about wanton mee or nasi lemak, we imagine hawker centres or the kopitiam just under our block. What about local favourites over a martini at a food court bar? In late Nov, Bar@Jiak started business at Frasers Tower, offering a unique experience of bougie and local comfort.

They’re an addition to Jiak, the food court that opened in Aug early this year.

As it is firstly a bar, we should tell you about the drinks being offered first. Cocktails start at S$15, which is lower than the average price of around S$22 to S$30. It’s a little over the cost of a usual pint elsewhere.

Bar@Jiak have given their own twists to classical cocktails. Take their Lychee Jubilee (S$15). It’s a mix of Pandan vodka, passionfruit, orange and lime. Or the eyebrow-raising name of Kopiko Martini (S$15) which, of course, uses Kopi O mixed with Vodka, Hazelnut and Orange.

New in town: Jyu Lae Bistro — Taiwanese-style egg crepes, zi char, fusion dishes, exquisite cocktails & daily live band

Bar@Jiak - Mario's Elixir

If you ever wanted to try Shiitake-infused Whisky, have Mario’s Elixir (S$18), for a smoky concoction of that and Angostura Bitters with tea reductions.

If these aren’t your cup of tea or pint of alcohol in this case, Bar@Jiak does have a full-fledged drink menu. It’s the usual gathering of spirits, sakes, and red and white wines.

Returning to the intriguing part of this bar, the hawker fare, that is served up at happy hour. See yourself chowing down on a bowl of Mixed Pork Wanton Noodle (S$7.80) with your cocktail. Or enjoy a hearty plate of stir-fried Roasted Meat Maggie Goreng ($7.80) with your highball.

For just a bite, you can find local favourites like Sambal Chicken Wings (S$12), Curry Chicken Mantou (S$12) and Chilli Fried Wanton (S$8).

Since Bar@Jiak is also open to bookings for events with customised drinks and food menus, why not consider them for your next party?

New in town: MOXIE – Modern Mediterranean beach house with communal shared plates & coastal cocktails
