Protein powders get most of the attention but the best protein bars can often be the better alternative. Compact and portable, they are a convenient option for any protein-starved, health-conscious person on the go.

Even though I don’t go to the gym as often as I should, I did manage to try a large variety of some of the best protein bars in Singapore. Energy bars that made our shortlist here were chosen not just for the amount of protein they pack in each bite but also for their great taste.

1. Quest Nutrition Hero Protein Bar, Crispy Cookies & Cream

Quest bars are one of the most popular options for protein bars for a reason. Unlike many other protein bars, Quest bars are packed with high-quality Whey protein and are low in sugar, which helps keep you full and energized throughout the day without a sugar crash. Oh, and Quest bars are packed mostly with fibre as well instead of carbohydrates.

Already having one of the highest protein per gram, these bars come in a variety of crazy flavours, so you won’t have trouble landing on a flavour you like. They even have cookies, smores and protein chips in case bars aren’t your thing. There’s really a suitable product for everyone. My personal recommendation is the Cookies and cream, Double Chocolate Chunk or the Chocolate Peanut butter.

Protein bars vs protein powder

If you are wondering whether to go with protein bars or protein powder, here are some of the most important things to consider.

The advantages of protein bars

  • Convenience: Protein bars are convenient for on-the-go consumption, making them great for busy lifestyles or when you need a quick snack.
  • Portability: Bars are easy to carry around in your bag or pocket, so you always have a protein option wherever you go.
  • Pre-portioned: The serving size of a protein bar is pre-determined, which can help with portion control.
  • Satiety: Some energy bars contain additional ingredients like fibre or healthy fats, which can help you feel fuller for longer.

The advantages of protein powders

  • Flexibility: Protein powders can be easily mixed with water, milk, or blended into smoothies, offering flexibility in how you consume them.
  • Customisation: You can adjust the serving size to fit your protein needs precisely.
  • Versatility: Protein powders can be incorporated into various recipes, such as pancakes, muffins, or homemade protein bars.
  • Quick absorption: They are usually quickly absorbed by the body, making them ideal for post-workout recovery.
