Yishunites, assemble! The prime hotspot of Yishun is our well-known mall, Northpoint City. Some may assume all the best makan spots are centred around the mall, but that’s far from the truth. There are so many other places to visit off the beaten path. As the office Yishun man, this is my love letter to the area. Here are the 10 best Yishun food spots that aren’t in Northpoint!

1. 618 Sim Carrot Cake

Whenever I talk about 618 Sim Carrot Cake, I always brag that it’s our best-rated carrot cake in Singapore. Tucked within a sleepy coffee shop along Yishun Ring Road, snaking queues are commonplace here. In fact, wait times can last up to 90 minutes!

Their plates of Fried Carrot Cake (S$4/5.50) and Fried Carrot Cake Add Prawn (S$6/8) are golden works of art. It has a crispy, fragrant surface, coupled with soft, cloud-like carrot cake pieces that feel like pillows. There are bits of prawns for savoury umami notes and even a rare dose of cai poh.

2. Yishun 925 Hainanese Chicken Rice

Honestly, how could we not include Yishun 925 Hainanese Chicken Rice in a list about the best places to eat in Yishun? You know them, you love them, but have you visited their home ground in Yishun Town Centre? They serve one of the most affordable plates of chicken rice in Singapore.

Their Signature Chicken Rice (S$5) is known for being super fragrant and less oily than most others. The steamed chicken is tender and sliced into thin pieces that absorb the soy sauce very well. Remember to try the bowls of white carrot soup that come with every plate of chicken rice, as they are a definite favourite among regulars.

3. One Mouth Noodle

You can find One Mouth Noodles within the rows of stalls in Yishun Park Hawker Centre. It’s a simple yet special addition to the hawker centre, as they pride themselves on serving only the freshest handmade noodles, compared to store-bought variants that other hawkers use.

One Mouth Noodles specialises in 2 dishes — Char Siew Wanton Noodles (S$5.80 for Small, S$6.80 for Large) and Hong Kong Style Dumpling Noodles (S$5.80 for Small, S$6.80 for Large). You can truly tell that the noodles are handmade, with each strand being silky and bouncy with a fabulous al dente texture. Their char siews are very tender and juicy, with light caramelisation on their exterior.

4. Slow Bakes

Anyone up for some heartwarming and cosy breakfast in the wee hours of the morning? Slow Bakes offers just that, and a bit more. It’s located within the Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre, and getting there is as chill as taking a tranquil walk through Yishun Pond Park.
With sunlight peeking through curtains and crisp wooden furniture, it’s the perfect place to sit and slow down.

If you’re at Slow Bakes, you have to try their Toast (S$3.10/slice), which comes with a myriad of spreads. It comes with a choice of bread and spread, and my favourite pairing is the Turmeric Sweet Potato Swirl Slice and Avocado Spread (+S$0.20). Get it in a Breakfast Set (S$4.95), which comes with a drink and soft-boiled eggs.
Fair warning: they sell out fast every day. They open at 7am, so make sure to arrive before 10am, or you’ll find yourself out of luck!

5. ICG Chicken & Burger

What’s better than one best-rated spot? Two, of course! Our best-rated Korean fried chicken, ICG Chicken & Burger in Northpoint Bizhub, is also here in Yishun! It’s a Korean fusion bistro that serves soups, pastas, and of course, Korean fried chicken. They boast a staggering 4.9/5 stars in 883 reviews at the time of writing, which is nearly unheard of.

Out of the many variations of Korean fried chicken they serve, I recommend trying their Spicy Gangjung Fried Chicken (S$8.90 for Small, S$13.90 for Medium, S$20.90 for Large) and Garlic Soy Fried Chicken (S$8.90 for Small, S$13.90 for Medium, S$20.90 for Large).
The Spicy Gangjung Fried Chicken is a striking dark red colour but has a deceptive, subtle sweetness. Meanwhile, the Garlic Soy Fried Chicken has a pleasant aroma and a strong soy taste.

15 stalls at Yishun Park Hawker Centre that you will brave the bad & the mad for [Oct 2025 Update]
6. Nanyang Curry

One of my favourite stalls in Yishun Park Hawker Centre is the beloved Nanyang Curry! Run by a sweet auntie and her son, the stall has quite a story. In 2023, Nanyang Curry closed due to the owner’s poor health but soon reopened in Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre.
They only recently pulled up the shutters once more in Yishun, their current stall right next to their previous one.

Grab yourself a comforting bowl of Chicken Curry Wing (S$5) with a side of French Bread (S$1 for 5 slices). The rich and warm curry packs a spicy punch, while the milky texture soothes your lips.

7. Nummun Thai Kitchen

If you’re craving some Thai food but don’t want to drag yourself all the way to Northpoint City, give Nummun Thai Kitchen along Yishun Ring Road a try. They opened their first outlet in Upper Thomson just before the pandemic and went viral on TikTok for their Crab Meat Omelette (S$28).

The omelette is filled to the brim with generously portioned soft pillows of crab meat. After you’re done devouring your omelette, have a go at their Mango Sticky Rice (S$8), the perfect way to cap off your meal.

8. San Gloo

I consider San Gloo to be Junction 9‘s best-kept secret. First of all, I doubt Singaporeans outside Yishun have even heard of the mall. At first glance, it seems like a carbon copy of Junction 8 in Bishan.

What makes San Gloo so special is the 27 flavours of binsgu they serve, along with 17 petit bingsu flavours. Every bowl of bingsu comes with a cup of condensed milk for that Instagram-worthy shot, and I think it pairs best with their Milo Crunch Bingsu (S$8.90 for L, S$12.90 for XL) and Blueberry Petit Bingsu (S$7.90).

9. Lu Jia Fish Soup

How long are you willing to queue for a bowl of fish soup? At Lu Jia Fish Soup, be ready to stand in line for at least an hour. It’s hidden inside Soon Lee Eating House, a nondescript industrial kopitiam that’s only recognisable by the snaking line formed in front of the stall.

Don’t be afraid to go all out here, as their signature Mixed Fish Soup only costs S$6.50. I recommend adding a bowl of Yam Rice (S$1.50) and Fried Egg Floss (S$1.50). The creamy white soup strikes the perfect balance of sweet and savoury, with a strong shao xing wine taste that pulls everything together.
Key Highlights: Mixed Fish Soup
Price: S$6.50 – S$9.50 per pax
10. Old World Bak Kut Teh & Fried Porridge

They’ve even rebranded into a zi char concept named Old Hokkien, before switching back to their previous name in Jan 2025.

They still offer a variety of zi char dishes from their brief stint as Old Hokkien, and I think their Pork Ribs Soup (S$6) is the best among them. Pair it with You Tiao (S$1.50), or try out their signature Sliced Pork Fried Porridge (S$4.50).

Price: S$4.50 – S$6 per pax
