Think Burger King’s Master Angus Burger deserves a Michelin star? Sign this petition here

2020 has already been crazy enough, but I never thought I’d see the day where a fast food joint joins the ever-growing list of Michelin star restaurants. For one, Burger King Belgium appears to be highly confident of their new Master Angus Burger—as apparent from their newly-launched petition on Change.org to get it a Michelin star.

The petition first went live on 23 September 2020 and has about just under 800 signatures at the date of writing (8 October 2020). Burger King Belgium has made their case by setting themselves apart from others on the Michelin star list. Out with the fancy-schmancy cutlery (nobody knows when to use which anyway), and in with the unpretentious, unabashed joys of finger dining.

Instead of the cold, hard silver tray carried by a waiter who will call you ‘Ma’am’, expect the familiar plastic serving trays that fit snugly on your minuscule table for one in the corner.

Anyone who’s had to wait five months for a reservation at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay will be relieved to know that here at (potential) Michelin starred Burger King, you have to wait for a grand total of…five minutes. “We know very well that ‘Burger King’ and ‘Michelin star restaurant’ don’t mix,” wrote Burger King Belgium CEO Kevin Derycke, but hey, 2020 is the year of change isn’t it?

Netizens seem to be split down in the middle with regards to this claim, but if you’re a passionate fan of the ole’ Burger King, then there hasn’t been a more opportune time to rally your solidarity and sign this petition.

Come at me if you want, but I personally think McDonald’s Singapore’s legendary McSpicy burger is well-deserving of a Michelin star. Until then, it will always sit on the throne of my fried food-loving heart.
