It’s no showstopper, but Charlie Brown Café has always had just the right amount of comfort and simplicity. I distinctly remember heading down during lunchtime back when I was still a student in SMU to catch their set meals under S$10—so it’s not without a hint of gloom that I deliver the news of them permanently closing down tomorrow, 31 December 2020.

After six good years of serving fans of Snoopy and friends, the establishment will bid adieu to fans and diners whom I’m sure will more than miss them. “I have a lot of good memories with the people I love at your place. You have got to come back!” writes Facebook user Gina Mutalip. Avid supporters of the cafe took to the restaurant’s Facebook page to leave tearful parting messages to the team, some also pinning the blame on COVID-19 for the rough, unrelenting year.

The Charlie Brown Café at Cineleisure Orchard was a MUIS Halal-certified restaurant when it was in operation, long championing for inclusivity and for an experience that everyone could go down to enjoy. Their pasta and signature lava cakes were loved and appreciated by many — it’s a shame that we won’t get to have that familiar taste anymore come 2021.

Their shuttering joins the slew of other themed cafes that we have said farewell to, including the My Melody Cafe and Gudetama Cafe. It’s always hard to see some of your favourite places go—fond memories and dishes along with them.

We wish the team at Charlie Brown Cafe nothing but the best, and hopefully, we’ll see them again one day.
