It’s that time of the year again—you hear the roaring engines of jets rehearsing for the annual National Day parade, your friends are queuing NDP songs on Spotify, promotions are aplenty, and it’s the only time that’s not Christmas where you can pair red with white without getting teased about your outfit. Local brands are finding ways to embrace the Singapore spirit, and what better way than through our country’s united love for food? Well-loved ice cream brand Creamier has partnered up with local traditional coffee roaster Kim Guan Guan to introduce a brand new Kopitiam series featuring the flavours we love dearly.
Even though the pandemic means that exuberant, crowded celebrations at the floating platform cannot come to fruition, Creamier x Kim Guan Guan’s new Kopi–Peng and Teh–Peng (S$3.90 per scoop, S$12.90 per pint) ice cream flavours will do perfectly fine. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who would refuse an ice-cold cup of kopi peng or teh peng especially in Singapore’s sunny climate, even more so when these favourites are now available in dessert form.
For me, no breakfast (and now, dessert) is complete without two slices of bread toasted to golden-brown perfection, a thin slice of butter melting steadily in the middle of light-green coconut kaya. Your breakfast cum dessert, or vice versa, will be made complete with a scoop of Creamier’s Kaya Toast Ice Cream (S$3.90), a nostalgic flavour that’s making a comeback this National Day. Taste the best of all worlds with all three flavours atop a stack of freshly-made waffles.
Nothing beats the heat like a dessert featuring the robust richness of caramelised coffee beans in kopi peng. Especially if paired with aromatic and bitter black tea, and rounded off with the refreshing notes of pandan leaves and coconut milk.
Maybe you won’t be catching the fireworks at Marina Bay or gathering with friends to celebrate the long weekend this year, but at least you’ll get to eat dessert for breakfast, and that’s a huge win in my books for sure. Creamier x Kim Guan Guan’s ice cream flavours will be available for pre-order on 1 August 2021 online, and purchase in stores from 6 August until 31 October 2021.
