Shutting down all your outlets seems rather drastic, especially when the brand has only been around for a year. However, that’s what happened to Curly King, which recently shuttered out of the blue.

The closure went unannounced, with the business’s last social media records being from Sep 2024.

Followers started to question the lack of activity in early Jan, before a write-up by blogger The Food Dossier was updated about the incident. On the page, all records of locations had been crossed-out.

A quick Google search indicates that all 4 Curly King outlets have shuttered, with their Google Maps profiles labelled as “Permanently Closed”.

Formerly known as Maggie King, Curly King called itself ”The first Singapore-style fried instant noodles concept”. It specialised in maggi goreng – fried instant noodles in various flavours with toppings.

Examples include their best seller Pork Cutlet Specialty Curly Mee, Shrimp Curly Mee and the slightly more pricey Crab Meat Curly Mee. They also provided flavours such as Tom Yum, XO and Mala for the fried Curly Mee.

This owner of Curly King was Richmond, who had previously worked with the owner of the famous hawker chain King of Fried Rice. The business had been established in Dec 2023, and opened 4 outlets in Compassvale, Boon Keng, Tampines and Punggol

Curly King’s shuttering came mere months after its rebranding in Apr 2024 and the opening of its fourth outlet in Punggol Central in Jul 2024

This incident of Curly King’s closure is similar to celebrity-owned chicken rice eatery Singabola’s, which shuttered after less than a year of operation. It had also been inactive on social media, with Asiaone discovering the closure only after they visited Canberra to find the stall empty.

The real question is, will there be anything new in store from the creators of Curly King in the future?
