I think we can all agree that Singaporeans are one tough bunch to please where Hokkien mee is concerned, with only a humble pool of stalls earning a stamp of approval from the most seasoned aficionados. And while the Hokkien Mee Hunting Facebook group continues to wax poetic about that coveted handful, a fresh face has begun making waves in the community. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give it up for Feng Hokkien Mee.

Like most other names, Feng Hokkien Mee is a one-dish wonder serving just Hokkien Mee in S$6, S$8 and S$10 portions. Its rendition leans “wet”, featuring a good mix of wok-kissed yellow noodles and thick bee hoon slicked in a creamy prawn stock. Studded throughout is the usual medley of squid, prawns, pork belly slivers and freshly fried pork lard nuggets — the golden-brown cherry on top.
Reviews praise it for its good balance of flavours and prominent wok hei, with some even likening its umami profile to that of Bukit Batok’s revered The Neighbourwok! Oh, just be warned: their orange-hued chilli blend is said to pack a sharper heat than expected, so mix with care.
As a fan of both The Neighbourwok and Ah Jie Hokkien Mee, I can’t wait to try out Feng Hokkien Mee’s take on the dish for myself. Until then, you’ll just have to make the trip to Jurong West to see if it lives up to the buzz.
