Challenge me if you will, but there’s nothing better to pair with a slew of chilled pints and refreshing cocktails than some fast-casual snacks. Gem Bar has it down pat, with their new Street Food Paradise menu that sees a selection of comfort bar grub that will satiate any and all grumbling bellies.
Choose from your pick of Fried Skewers/Mala Broth (min. five pieces) (S$2 – S$2.50 each), with our personal picks of Bacon Enoki, King Mushrooms, and Mini BBQ Pork Sausages. It’s no-frills and an absolute no-brainer choice that’ll have you snacking with glee. Don’t miss out on the four sauces, especially the fiery sambal petis, which might have you reaching for a few gulps of water for salvation.
However, if you’re swinging by Gem Bar after a long day of work and in search of a heartier bite, the Gem-ly Burger (S$16) is there to save the day. It’s the bars iteration of Ramly burger, with a tom yum beef patty and homemade truffle egg mayo between a soft brioche bun. I couldn’t help but relish in the buttery and juicy combination, with the unmistakable waft of truffle oil that permeates the air in every bite. You won’t want to share this, and you certainly will need plenty of napkins within reach—but it’s all worth the mess.
Elsewhere on the menu, mentaiko maniacs will fall head over heels for the Mentaiko Seafood Set (S$19) that comes with half-shell scallops and king prawns. You know what’ll go great with this? A crisp pint of Tsingtao—or even an entire tower(!)—which also happens to be an addition to the Gem Bar beverage line-up.
Call me uninformed, but it took me a while for Gem Bar’s latest Har Cheong Gai (S$10 for half a dozen) to grow on me. I soon learnt that Chinese wine is used in its preparation, and as a result, its scent threw me off. While it might not be my personal pick, I have to give due credit to its crunchy batter and undeniable succulence.
So, the next time you’re wandering around Ann Siang Hill looking for an easy place to have a few pints, why not head to Gem Bar and try out their Street Food Paradise menu?
