If you’re a big fan of prawn mee, it’s likely that you’ve at least patronised Geylang Laksa Prawn Noodles once. The 59-year-old legacy has now opened a second outlet in Ang Mo Kio.

Located at 632 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, 632 Food Center, they’re now at a more central area as compared to their previous location in Geylang. They have started operations since 30 Dec 2022.

Identifiable by its Tiffany blue header (or a long queue in front of the store), be sure to pop by to say hello to Chef YY, as he helms the Ang Mo Kio outlet!

They started as a street hawker in 1964 when the founder, Mr. Lee Sie Kian started out in as humble trishaw shop along Geylang Street. After 23 years of operation under his hands, Mr. Lee passed down his business to his son-in-law, Mr. Johnny Lim. Now, Geylang Laksa Prawn Noodles is owned by 3rd generation owners, Chef Ah Tu and Chef YY.

The youth really bring loads to the table. Since the 2nd generation took over, its recipe has improved tremendously thanks to the use of fresher seafood ingredients for a more prominent taste in the prawn broth.

Over at the Ang Mo Kio outlet, you’ll get a variation of laksa and prawn noodles, such as Traditional Prawn Noodles (S$4.30/S$6.30), Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles (S$5.30/S$7.30), and Clams Prawn Noodles (S$5.30/S$7.30).

Enjoy the sweet the prawn broth, which is packed with the natural sweetness of their fresh prawns, which are wok-fried before added to the soup. Cooked for over 4 hours, Chef YY adds several condiments to the soup for a further enhancement of flavour.

For hefty eaters, maybe you could consider for their Big Prawn Noodles (S$6.80/S$8.80) or Jumbo Prawn Noodles (S$10.80/S$12.80) for huge fresh prawns and much larger portions.

I’d recommend opting for the soup version when you visit Geylang Laksa Prawn Noodles— they’ve included better quality fried shrimps to exude the shrimp flavour in the broth.

Alternatively, enjoy the Traditional Laksa (S$4.30) as it is the main star of the show. The secret lies in their rempah, concocted with a myriad of spices and a dash of fresh squeezed coconut milk for a light flavour profile to juxtapose the heavy flavours that laksa usually resonates with.

For those who’ve been fans of Geylang Laksa Prawn Noodles, I have good news… It seems like they’re already in discussion to open a third outlet!
