When it comes to themed cafes, there is none more adorable than that 50’s era retro-chic with the checkered floors and an old jukebox. Well, it seems like Joji’s Diner has clearly understood the assignment and has gone all out with that aesthetic.
Yes, don the red hairbands and suspenders because you’ll be twisting to the retro beat with the likes of Joji’s Diner. Let’s start with the neon lights and plush red cushion seats that’ll make you want to be jiving out Elvis or slow-dancing to Billie Holiday. Of course, one of the best parts of being in an American diner is the towering milkshakes and all-day breakfasts.
I’ve got my eye on the Goldilocks (Salted Caramel) Milkshake (S$9.90), which I suppose is as good as it sounds. In equal parts, ice cream and milk, before it’s drizzled with the decadent salted caramel. Otherwise, the classic Driving Me Bananas (S$8.90) and the Strawberry Paddle Pop (S$8.90) would do the trick. Oh, and if I were you, extra whip, please.
Of course, one of the best parts of Joji’s Diner is the all-day breakfast. Like Ron Swanson always says, ‘There has never been a sadness that can’t be cured with breakfast food”. How true that is, Ron, and that’s why the UFO Plate (S$6.90) with two golden pancake discs, two juicy beef patties, and two sunny-side-up eggs. Truly, a plate that might take you out of this world.
If not, the Chicken N Waffle (S$12.90) or the Beef Patty Eggs Ben (S$12.90) are the breakfast staples to make any time of the day much better. Plus, if you were looking for that Riverdale equivalent of a diner in Singapore, here it is, sans the bad scriptwriting, of course.
