Jurong West Hawker Centre finally reopens with 39 stalls offering promotions & budget meals from $3

After what’s felt like ages since its closure in 2020, Jurong West Hawker Centre is finally open to the public from 28 Sep 2023. Its 39 stalls will be offering opening promotions for a limited time. On hearing this news, I absolutely had to travel down for a look-see myself.

Apart from the addition of the new operator’s logos, the exterior remains mostly the same but with new life breathed into its colours.

The hawker centre’s interior, on the other hand, has been given a complete facelift to reflect a more modern aesthetic. However, there is still an eclectic mix of old-school elements sprinkled among vibrant (almost garish) lights.

Spacious zones from its pre-renovation state have been maintained, one of the better aspects of the old hawker centre.

No queue was as lengthy as Shi Nian‘s, a popular hawker known for their pig leg rice. This was for 1 simple reason: their opening promotion was a no-strings-attached free handout of Pig Trotter or Pig Leg Rice, usually priced at S$5.90! Sadly, they later told me that it would be changed to a 1-for-1 deal for the remaining 2 days.

They offer a sharing platter of pork trotters as Lean Meat (S$18/S$22/S$26/S$30), as well as a smaller order of Pork Trotters for S$9.60.

Munchi Pancakes has also set up a new outlet, bringing their petrifyingly large selection of min jiang kueh variations to Jurong West Hawker Centre. This time, they are packing a new flavour – Kaya – available in min jiang kueh (S$1.60), Munchi Pancake (S$1.80) and Mini Munchi (3 for S$4.90).

Leaving a Google review for their outlet nets you a free min jiang kueh, provided you also make a purchase.

Tanjong Rhu Wanton Noodle has an incredibly attractive budget meal of Char Siew Noodle Soup priced at only S$3. The Signature Wanton Noodle (S$4.30) has delighted the taste buds of many given their numerous outlets, and I’m sure it will be no different here. An additional plate of Fried Dumplings or Wanton (S$4.80) should pair excellently.

Steer clear of these markets & hawker centres slated for spring cleaning in September 2023

West Bro’s Western is truly a bro for providing their S$3 value meal of Chicken Rice, Chicken Karaage or Chicken Nugget Set. The opening promotion is even more of a lobang, giving you a plate of Chicken Chop (S$5.80) for S$5.

An order of Hotplate Saba Fish Set is down to S$5 from S$5.80, and the Fish Fillet + Teriyaki Chicken bento S$5.50 from S$6.20. On top of this, Jap & Korean Cuisine will give free ebi tempura sides with either order. Now that’s generous.

Pau and dumpling lovers alike will get a kick out of XiangYu Pan-Fried Bun‘s menu. Xiao Long Bao (6 pcs for S$5) and Chives and Pork Dumplings (10 for S$5) are no doubt popular, but you’ll want to try their promotions on Pan-fried Pork Buns – 3 for S$4 instead of S$5, or Pan-fried Prawn Buns – 3 for S$5 instead of S$5.50.

Looking for some healthier choices? Day & Night Herbal Soup will stave off those ailments with Carrot Pork Ribs Soup (S$4.50), Fungus & Lotus Seed w/Chicken Soup (S$4.50) or Sweet Corn w/Pork Ribs Soup (S$4.50) while keeping you full.

Their budget meal of Mushroom with Diced Chicken Rice (S$3) will do the same at an even lower cost.

The few stalls I’ve mentioned are only a drop in the ocean compared to the total of 39 that now call Jurong West Hawker Centre home. Do head down and see what the rest of the ongoing promotions are for yourself.

Let’s hope they won’t be subject to the same fate as their predecessors, as I’m sure Pioneer residents have been looking forward to this for a long while.
