You don’t see many hawkers rocking the same outfit every day, much less in business wear and a wrist wrapped with shimmering Rolex gold. Eunos residents may be shocked to learn that Kim’s Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee, possibly the only stall in Singapore with that dapper fit, is seeking a successor.

Mr Tan Kue Kim, business owner and the man behind the wok, has been sporting that drip for a good 4 decades. Now 78, he explained to Shin Min that he’s looking for a successor so more Singaporeans get a taste of his recipes. His expertise comes from 65 years of experience frying hokkien mee.

You might be wondering why he hasn’t handed the business to his children; simply put, even the hawker’s eldest son who runs his own catering business doesn’t meet his expectations.

For those making plans to have their final meal at the eatery, it may be wise to slow down as Mr Tan will be keeping going for at least the next 3 years. He even intends to continue cooking for another 2 years to smoothen the transition if a successor is found.

Don’t let this news stop you from dropping by to sample Kim’s Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee’s decades-old recipes, though. Apart from the eponymous Kim’s Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee (S$6), their menu includes local favourites like Hor Fun with Egg, Seafood Mee Goreng, Sambal Fried Rice and Black Pepper Bee Hoon, all costing S$6 for individual sets. The Crab sets (S$68++) cater to groups with over 4 dishes and the dessert of the day.
