Singaporeans are fortunate to have an abundance of kopitiams and hawker centres conveniently located in our neighbourhoods, unlike in other countries where one would have to venture out solely to get food. For Dakota residents, the opening of Kopitiam Corner @ Dakota Crescent on 29 May 2023 means that they needn’t have to travel all the way to Old Airport Road Food Centre.

In most cases, quality is more important than quantity. Although there are only 6 curated stalls here, there is a decent mix of popular brands and old favourites.

For those missing the renowned Ri Ri Hong Mala Hot Pot at Peoples Park Food Centre which is currently undergoing a 3-month renovation, you can now visit them over here. Besides selling delicious ma la xiang guo, the stall also offers Hot & Spicy Grilled Fish (S$20) and yummy side dishes like Sour & Spicy Shredded Potato (S$5) and Chong Qing Spicy Chicken (S$12).

For a wide variety of Japanese and Korean delights, try Popular Food Japanese & Korean Cuisine. We tried the Hotplate Chicken Set (S$6.50) and the meat was flavourful and tender with juicy onions. The menu also has Chicken Kimchi Ramen (S$5.80), Beef Udon Soup (S$5.50) and Salmon + Teriyaki Chicken Bento (S$6.50).

I’ll be honest. Even though Ze Ji Handmade Fishball Noodles has been around for over 50 years, I’ve never heard of them (yes, I don’t know every stall in Singapore).

I was impressed when I tried the Signature Fishball Noodle (Dry) (S$5). The fishballs were bouncy and I could taste the fish used. The fishcakes were also on another level; I could eat 3 bowls of it!

The Chicken Briyani (S$6.50) was an aromatic medley of herbs infused into the basmati grains with a juicy piece of crispy chicken and accompanying vegetables.

Come check out Kopitiam Corner @ Dakota Crescent if you’re in the area; I’m already dreaming about the fishball noodles.
