A Maori epithet for a rapid or swift river current, Korio, has taken Singapore by the storm with its artisanal brioche doughnuts and hearty sammies (sandwiches). With cheese pulls being all the rage in the sandwich scene, Korio’s toasts have easily rushed in as savoury favourites.
Let your quest for the perfect cheese sammie continue, as Korio is introducing a new addition to their variety—The Shroom 2.0—the successor of the original mushroom toast, The Shroom. This new “Shroomtrooper” arrives in Korio’s store in Far East Square on 6 May 2021, prepared to stun with an umami explosion of flavours.
While it may be a common perception that iterations of the original hardly live up to expectations, the looks of this well-bodied sandwich may just tell us otherwise. The Shroom 2.0, formidable as its namesake sounds, is loaded with thyme roasted mushrooms, caramelised onions, and arugula, held together in a delicious blend of provolone and black truffle aioli. Completed with the stack of country sourdough, we can already imagine the layers of textures in a single bite. Also, concerns of potential fall-out are alleviated as the “Shroomtrooper” sits in a well-wrapped paper packaging, ensuring minimal fallout with every cheese pull you take.
The Shroom 2.0 is Korio’s experiment with different ingredients from its original, which contained cremini and shiitake. This time, the star of the show are infused with the aroma and richness of thyme, and we’re fired up with both curiosity and expectancy for its taste. We’re not sure how long this guest will linger on Korio’s menu, so it’s better to head down for your mushroom cheese toast fix once it’s out.
