As a Westie, the journey to the East was definitely not easy. Les Mains Patisserie, located near Siglap, opened recently on 18 June 2022, and looking at its pastel pink walls and delicious tarts, I knew I had to make a trip down to try them out. On hindsight, I probably should have checked Google Maps before being so ambitious.
The stylish-looking little cafe is found on the inside of a street, and customers have to walk for around six minutes before chancing upon this little nook.
Most of their customers do takeaway, thus they only had two tables within the cafe when I visited, but thankfully they were empty so I could sit anywhere I liked.
The glass display was extremely inviting, and showcased eight different tarts or bakes. I quickly ordered three to try and got to snapping pictures of them.
I started with Les Mains Patisserie’s lightest flavour – the Fruit Tart (S$10.90) which was topped with slices of strawberry and a blueberry. Upon first bite, the tart shell was sturdy and had a distinct butter-cookie like taste, and the sweet vanilla cream smoothed out the tart.
This was contrasted with the slightly sour strawberries, which gave a slight acidic punch to the otherwise sweet tart. I really enjoyed the tart, and within seconds it was demolished.
The Chocolate Whiskey Tart (S$10.90) is made of premium dark Valrhona chocolate which is very rich. This is Les Mains Patisserie’s most popular item.
Upon first bite, I could immediately taste the chocolatey goodness and the strong alcohol taste from the whiskey. The alcohol cut through the richness of the chocolate. There was salted caramel found at the base of the tart, which balanced out the alcohol taste with sweetness.
It had a cocoa crust which tied all the flavours together. In my opinion, the decadent tart may be too much for a person to finish all by themselves, and might be better for sharing.
Les Mains Patisserie’s Pecan Vanilla Choux (S$8.90) surprised me the most.
Arriving in the shape of a golf ball, it was topped with salted caramel and an interesting dark brown sauce on top. The dark brown sauce was actually salted Pecan sauce, which was a welcomed contrast to the sweet French puff. Within the choux was sweet vanilla filling which was creamy and smooth.
The sweet and salty finds a good balance in this puff, and I was really impressed with this bake.
I greatly enjoyed the tarts at Les Mains Patisserie, and will be going back occasionally due to the sheer distance of travelling. Admittedly, the tarts are all on the pricier side, so I will definitely only be splurging on them during special occasions, or the hole in my wallet from eating out so much will grow into a black hole.
