‘That’s hot’, you’ll think in Paris Hilton’s voice and no doubt, it is hot. The ramen, I mean. This is no ordinary ramen, the ramen from Menbaka Fire Ramen is first engulfed in a tower of flames in a theatrical display before you can eat it.

Already a viral sensation in Kyoto, when news that Menbaka is opening their second outlet in the world in Singapore, we were all beside ourselves. After all, it doesn’t take much to fuel our undying passion for all things ramen.

Menbaka Fire Ramen‘s new outlet is set to open on 24 November 2020 at precisely 3.40 pm in Cineleisure Orchard. Watch as the eccentric owner, Masamichi Miyazawa, set bowls of ramen aflame for that unique smoky flavour. What happens is that Masamichi will pour a saucepan of flaming hot negi (Japanese long onion) oil over the bowls of ramen from which a blazing inferno will then erupt.

A show that you’ll want to catch on your phone, right? For your safety and some eager pyromaniacs, you are not allowed to use your phones when the hot oil is poured over the ramen. If there’s no photo it didn’t happen, how can you prove you were there?

Well, the good folk of Menbaka have got us covered. The staff will place your phone on suspended selfie sticks, so you have proof that your ramen was indeed very lit.

The Instagram-worthy flames are just one part of it, at Menbaka they use a 220-year old blend of shouyu, stewed with katsuobushi and sababushi, to form a smokey, umami-packed broth. Coupled with straight-cut noodles and a heaping portion of spring onions, this Kyoto-style ramen is all you’ll be talking about.

From the Shoyu Fire Ramen (S$17.90) to the Singapore exclusive Tonkotsu Fire Ramen (S$18.90), this is another ramen joint to add to the ever-growing list. Plus, as an opening special, from 27 November 2020 to 29 November 2020, Menbaka is offering one-for-one Fire Ramen bowls. Yup, as I said — it’s lit.
