Only a few things will excite this millennial and in no particular order: Taylor Swift releasing a new album, discounts at plant shops, and the promise of pastries. Seeing as Taylor already dropped her re-recorded version of Fearless and that I’m housing a small jungle in my room, pastries it shall be, and from Mr Holmes Bakehouse too.
For those who know about the laminated pastry scene, you’ll remember how the famous cruffin rocked our world of dough when it first burst into the scene. The love child of the ever-reliable muffin and the elegant croissant, the cruffin is equal parts comforting, and ergonomically shaped. The best part of all, it was Mr Holmes Bakehouse that started it all.
So, the news that this San Franciscan bakery gracing our shores is music to my ears indeed. Slated to open in at Pacific Plaza in June 2021, you can expect a selection of bakes to include all manner of doughnuts, croissants and their signature cruffins.
This 41-seater bakery-café is adorned with white-tiled walls and an all-pink ceiling—a theme that is part of their signature colour scheme. Moreover, you’ll get to snap pictures of their iconic “I got baked” neon signs. It’s the perfect amount of tongue-in-cheek if you ask me.
To make sure their bakes are kept to the strictest of standards, they are going to fly in pastry chefs from the original flagship to ensure everything is in tip-top shape. Also, to keep things interesting, Mr Holmes Bakehouse will have a quarterly seasonal menu. After all, one can never have too much of a good thing. Keeping to their ethos of playfulness and embracing creativity, just know with Mr Holmes Bakehouse, you’ll never be bored.
Let’s just say, June (barring other things) cannot come quick enough.
