Tapas are small plates of appetisers, snacks or dishes that are great for days when you might not be able to decide on what to order. The newest contestant to the Japanese tapas scene is Musubi, a new Japanese restaurant located in JEM offering authentic Japanese tapas and seiro gohan.

Musubi officially opened on 11 Oct 2022 and is located on the fourth floor of JEM Singapore. While tapas is a Spanish word and originated in Spain, the concept of small-plated appetisers also apply to Japanese izakaya bars. These snack-like dishes are often shared with a group of friends over drinks.

Musubi incorporates this concept with the freshness of Japanese cuisine. There are two types of tapas available: Cold (from S$4++ each) and Fried (from S$6++ each).

Its Fried Tapas menu has Goma Tofu with Crab Gravy Sauce, Fried Oyster, Crispy Cheese Fry, Octopus Fry, Fried Potato (Osaka-style or Mentai), Tebasaki Karaage and Lemon-koji Karaage.

These options range from Shoyu-koji Beef Seiro Gohan (S$15++), Melty Braised Pork Belly Seiro Gohan (S$16++), Saikyo-miso Saba Mentai Seiro Gohan (S$15.50++) and Tomato-koji Hotate Seiro Gohan (S$16.50++).

Each order of Seiro Gohan also comes with a choice of Yuzu Tonjiru or Crab Gravy Chawanmushi. In the spirit of izakaya or tapas culture, Musubi serves alcohol such as Premium Malt (S$6++) and Yuzu Sour (S$6.50++) which has a low alcohol content.

The next time you’re looking for a drink and good grub, head on to Musubi!
