A week before the ‘Circuit Breaker’ came into place, NTUC FairPrice introduced the ‘Priority Shopping Hour’, providing vulnerable groups (elderly, pregnant women and persons with disabilities) in Singapore with a safer shopping environment by prioritising their needs. However, with the rising number of local unlinked cases and outbreaks in several clusters around the island, stricter measures were put in place. Not only that, PM Lee Hsien Loong even released a video address appealing to older Singaporeans for them to stay home during this crucial period as they are deemed to be more susceptible to the virus.

In an attempt to heed the government’s calling, NTUC FairPrice is thus providing more incentives to families staying with our Pioneer Generations. For the period from 15 April to 4 May 2020, Family members of Pioneer Generations can enjoy the 3% Pioneer Generation discount at all NTUC FairPrice outlets on Mondays and Wednesdays.

This exception is to strongly encourage those above the age of 65 to stay at home whilst the younger family members do the grocery shopping on their behalf. All that needs to be done is to simply flash the Pioneer Generation Card upon checkout and they will be entitled to the special savings.

Nonetheless, entry to the supermarket during the ‘Priority Shopping Hour’ remains only for the elderly during the first hour of each NTUC FairPrice store’s normal operating hours. For stores that operate 24-hours, the dedicated hour will be from 7am to 8am every Monday.

With such initiatives in place and the mandatory requirement for individuals to wear a face mask in supermarkets, not only should we safeguard our Pioneer Generation but also ourselves during this period of uncertainty.

I’m sure that if we take this matter seriously and support the government’s ‘Circuit Breaker’ measures, we will be to tide through this difficult times faster and more effectively. So let us all refrain from heading out and stay home to be safe.

Dates & Times: Pioneer Generation discount for family members is applicable at all NTUC FairPrice Outlets only on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 15 April to 4 May 2020

Prices: N.A.
