I’m going to be honest with you; at age 20, I’m still an unashamed fan of Sanrio characters. Keychains, lunchboxes, even the case of my AirPods is brightly adorned with these lovable, Japanese characters. It’s a phase I started at age six and has shown no signs of stopping, which is why when I saw the Hello Kitty Cakes newly launched by well-loved bakery Polar Puffs & Cakes, I absolutely beamed.

If you know or are, a mega-fan of Sanrio, then you might have a difficult time picking your favourite out of all the options. I don’t know how each one is somehow cuter than the last.

Their Hello Kitty Popcakes (S$40.90) is a good place to start—you get six kawaii cupcakes topped with lychee, vanilla, or chocolate macaroon featuring either your favourite Sanrio princess, or an adorable teddy bear. These sugary confections are paired with vanilla sponge cupcakes with a centre of salted caramel sauce, or chocolate sponge cupcakes with chocolate sauce.

If you’ve got a Scorpio friend who needs an extra hit of cuteness on their birthday, the Poppin’ Good Times (S$60.90) cake is a salted caramel confection that’s made to resemble a red-and-white-striped bucket of popcorn.

For those who like their cake served with more cake (totally not speaking from personal experience), celebrate birthdays with the Poppin’ Good Party (S$102.90), which comes with both the Hello Kitty Popcakes, and the Poppin’ Good Times cake. I just know that all Sanrio fans are starry-eyed right now.

My personal favourite of the lot is I love Hello Kitty (S$65.90), incredibly apt because that proclamation is something I say too often for someone my age. Think of the kawaii cat princess but in cake form, featuring a delectable combination of Japanese sponge and light yoghurt mousse.

Is it time to treat your fellow Sanrio-loving bestie with something sweet? These Hello Kitty desserts can be ordered online via the Polar Puffs & Cakes website, so you can still show your friend that you’re thinking of them even if you can’t throw a birthday party in person.
