Summer is closely associated with the iconic Matsuri Festival in Japan. Even though you might not be able to brave the seven-hour flight to Tokyo, you can enjoy a slice of summer happiness this June at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).

RWS is bringing the joy and treasures of Japan to our sunny shores with their first-ever RWS Summer Matsuri! Pop by for four days from 6 – 9 June 2019 to join in the revelry of food, movies, drinks and cultural performances that are modelled after the famous Furusato Matsuri Tokyo.

Think about it as the Japanese version of Taiwan’s Shilin Night Market.

Come and savour 38 different kinds of food! You’ll be spoilt for choice with an exciting line-up of food and culture from six regions and 11 prefectures in Japan.

Featuring award-winning donburis from Furusato Matsuri Tokyo’s National Donburi Championship, they’ll also have delicious grilled seafood from Hokkaido and desserts brought to Singapore for the first time.

At this feast of food and drinks, the items start from an affordable S$3.

You’ll even get to vote for your favourite donburi with every purchase.

I’m personally placing my bets on the Kuroge Wagyu Donburi, but the Premium Mikawa Isshiki Grilled Eel Donburi also seems really promising. Make sure to come down with your family and friends and try all six savoury donburis!

Those with a sweet tooth can make a beeline for the range of authentic Japanese sweets from different prefectures.

We have the Purin Dora, a rich custard pudding sandwiched by buttery and fluffy dorayaki (pancakes) drizzled with caramel originating from Oita prefecture. And I’m sure that the soft creamy texture of Nama Melon Soft Cream, made from the sweet and juicy fruit, will get everyone swooning.

Toast to good fortune with over 55 types of sake, wine, spirits and beer. Flown in exclusively for this RWS Summer Matsuri is sake from Ginrei Gassan Sake Brewery, which has 319 years of history and has been awarded for 18 consecutive years in the Tohoku Sake Competition.

Entertainment-wise, you can look forward to free, family-friendly Japanese movie screenings from Shochiku Co.

Alternatively, take part in the traditional Akita Kanto which features 12-metre tall “pole lanterns” resembling grains of rice. You can try your hand at lifting one of these massive poles after the performance.
