We’ve heard ‘East side is the best side’ way too many times in Singapore — though I don’t quite agree with the statement (no offence). But now, the Easties have yet another reason to flaunt their food offerings with the opening of Shu Da Xia at Tampines 1 (life isn’t fair at all).
Located on level 3, this hotpot restaurant that hails from Chengdu, China is ranked amongst China’s top 10 hotpot restaurants, with over 600 outlets globally.
Bright and inviting by day, warm and cosy by night, Shu Da Xia offers a legitimate Sichuan hotpot experience that’s ideal for both family and friends.
Whether you’re in the mood for a Single Pot (S$22++ (Signature broth only), Dual Pot (S$20++), or the ultimate Triple Pot (S$18++), you’ll definitely find a broth that’s perfect for your taste buds.
Hey! Since getting 3 broths is a cheaper deal, I’d highly recommend the Triple Pot to have the best of both worlds. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
Behold the Signature Broth — something that looks like it came straight from Hades‘ own kitchen. The mala beef tallow broth undergoes a painstaking 100-hour fermentation process, resulting in a robust, umami-rich flavour with a strong numbing sensation — hallmarks of authentic Sichuan cuisine.
As a nice balance, you can also savour the creamy and earthy Matsutake Chicken Broth or the Dang Gui Pork Bone Broth that isn’t overly herby. There’s also other options available like the Sauerkraut Fish Soup, Tomato Soup and Mushroom Soup.
Having hotpot without the ingredients is like leaving your house with just one shoe (unless you’re content with just sipping the broth). Complement your experience with offerings like the Gui Fei Beef (S$15++), that comes with milk. The calcium in the milk reacts with the enzymes in the meat to further soften the meat proteins.
The Marinated Pork Ribs (S$16++) are marinated with Shu Da Xia’s signature seasoning. One bite in, and I was blown away by its tender texture and deep, smoky taste — so much so that I reached for a second and third piece without hesitation.
If you like seafood pastes, one of my favourites was the Tai Chi Double Paste (S$15++), presented artfully in a yin-yang plate. It’s a lovely combination of hand-chopped black tiger prawn, squid, and fish roe, resulting in a crunchy texture with mini pops of fun.
There’s even a cute Ultraman ‘parking’ area in the centre, perfect for placing cooked meats so everyone can help themselves.
To take your experience up a notch, simply top up S$3.80 to be eligible for the condiments section. Over here, let your imagination run wild (sensibly) and build-your-own perfect dip for your hotpot ingredients. They have over 15 selections including Shacha Sauce, Crispy Golden Soybeans, Rattan Pepper Oil, Fermented Tofu, Garlic, and more.
This also gives you access to the shredded tofu salad, watermelon and ice jelly dessert.
As an opening promotion, diners can enjoy 50% off on all food items (excluding soup base, beverages and condiments) if they head over from 15 to 31 Mar 2025 (just in time for the school holidays).
If you have a hankering for some Sichuan hotpot goodness, head over to Shu Da Xia to get your cravings fixed.
