Those living around Punggol will know that the massive Fo Guang Shan festival outside the MRT has just ended. But do you know that a mini Taiwanese night market has just started running just outside Waterway Point’s East Wing at Basement 2 (just outside Fish & Co.)?

Started on 16 May , this mini Taiwanese night market will run until 25 May 2025 and boasts a total of 13 F&B stalls. If it’s been a while since your last vacation to Taiwan for its delicious food, this is a faster and more budget-friendly way to satiate those cravings.

For those who love Taiwanese fried oyster cakes like the ones sold at Yongle Market along Dihua Street in Taipei, swing by Taiwan Ô-Á-TIàto get the Oyster Pork (S$4.50) cake. If you’re not exactly an oyster fan, the stall also has 5 other flavours like Scallop Pork (S$5), Vegetable (S$3), and Octopus Pork (S$4.50).

I also spotted Crocs Egg Waffles at a stall called Dong Dong Xie Ji Zan Zai. While I often see Crocs on the feet of Gen Z and Gen Alpha youths around me, I decided to try the waffles just for fun. I’m not sure if they’re actually a thing in Taiwan though—I only recall seeing videos of them at a Vietnamese street stall and in Indonesia.

There are 3 flavours available: Coklat Coco, Ham Cheese and Cheese Corn — all at S$6 a pair.

I’m not sure why they had to add colourful rice sprinkles and butterfly-shaped marshmallows to the pancakes — maybe it’s meant to entice young kids, or I’m just too old for this cutesy stuff. That said, the pancake itself was decent, with a firm texture and a savoury ham and cheese filling.

Surprisingly, the sweet toppings and savoury pancake worked together better than expected. I can’t imagine the sugar overload if I had gone for the Coklat Coco instead.

Stinky tofu enthusiasts can enjoy 6 varieties of tofu bases such as White Stinky Tofu (S$7.50/S$9.50/S$11.50), Black Bean Stinky Tofu (S$8/S$10/S$12) and Changsha White Stinky Tofu (S$9/S$14/S$17).

Next, you can choose over 13 flavours to pair with your beancurd. The options include the spicy Mala Soup Base and less spicy Soup-Filled Stinky Tofu with Garlic and Chilli.

Our small Changsha Black Stinky Tofu (S$10) with Speciality Pickled Vegetables Spicy Sauce was a sauceless crispy fried tofu crowned with pickled cabbage, chopped chilli and sesame seeds. I was glad that the ‘stink level’ was minimal and it was a crispy, delicious snack!

Those who love the Taiwanese dessert popiah can visit 好事花生 for peanut ice cream rolls. For the uninitiated, they are street snacks involving popiah skin, shaved peanuts, coriander (yes, I know right?), and ice cream. We spotted ice cream flavours like Matcha, Yam, Strawberry, Mint, and Double Chocolate — all at S$3 each.

There’s also grilled king oyster mushrooms with flavours like Lemon (S$6), Kari (S$6), Seaweed (S$6), and Black Pepper (S$6).

You can also enjoy sweet, chewy Sweet Potato Balls (S$5 for 10 pieces) and fire-grilled beef cubes such as Cheesy Beef (S$13), Nacho Beef (S$13). We also discovered Shark Fin Soup (S$2.50), and Braised Pork Rice (S$5.50).

Quench your thirst at 3% Taiwanese-Style Milk Tea with varieties like Da Hong Pao Milk Tea (S$4 for 500ml, S$5 for 700ml) and White Peach Oolong Milk Tea (S$4 for 500ml, S$5 for 700ml).

If you’re at Waterway Point for whatever reason, why not drop by this mini Taiwanese night market and check out what they have to offer.
