A friend recently told me, “Taman Jurong is so underrated”, and I wholeheartedly agree. Everyone’s so drawn to the bustling chaos of Jurong East and Boon Lay that they often overlook the food hub in between which is Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre

Taman Jurong Food Centre - building

The 3-storey building houses a wet market on the ground floor and over 60 different cooked food stalls. It’s incredible to think about, more so when you arrive to find that the Food Centre consists completely of the top two levels. It’s also connected to the Taman Jurong CC and directly opposite the Shopping Centre, making it the perfect place for a meal before or after your activities.

Ready to discover the treasures of Taman Jurong Food Centre if you ever decide to visit the vicinity? Here are 12 different stalls we think are worth checking out – try not to get lost in the many twists and turns looking for them though.

1. 168 Neapolitan Pizza (#03-168)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - 168 Neapolitan Style Pizza

168 Neapolitan Pizza was founded by couple Henry Teong and his wife Mylene, who have 2 sons. Their younger son is autistic; the stall was established to provide him with a future job.

It specialises in handmade Neapolitan-style pizza created with 3-day-fermented dough using a recipe Henry learned from an Italian friend. This results in a fluffy, chewy base rather than a thin crispy crust.

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Weekly Special posters

You can look forward to the stall’s Weekly Special Pizza menua series of limited edition flavours that rotate weekly. These include flavours such as Italian Sausage, Truffle Mushroom or Salmon with Kale Salad Pizza.

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Pizza overview

Alongside the Weekly Special, you can also pick from their permanent menu items. For instance, Smoke Duck Pizza (S$12) and Chicken Mushroom Pizza (S$15) are examples of their more popular flavours – genuinely the best pizzas I’ve had in a while.

2. Yong Kee Claypot Bak Kut Teh (#02-78)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Yong Kee Claypot Bak Kut Teh

Secret Michelin Guide hawker stall Yong Kee Bak Kut Teh is for the people sick of the Singapore versus Malaysia-style pork bone soup debate. Why pick a side when you can have both?

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Bak Kut Teh

The Bak Kut Teh (S$5) comes in both the peppery and herbal soup versions, which is great for those hoping to experience the best of both worlds! Choose either one as your soup base, or even better, get one of each.

For a complete meal, you can pay S$7.50 to upgrade your Bak Kut Teh or Pork Tenderloin Soup (S$5) to Set A. This combo includes your soup of choice, rice, youtiao slices and preserved vegetables.

What is the difference between Bak Kut Teh and Pork Tenderloin Soup? It’s in the names – the former contains pork ribs, while the latter uses lean pork slices.

3. Tom’s Kitchen (#03-130)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Tom's Kitchen

Tom’s Kitchen is one of the more well-known gems of Taman Jurong Food Centre, despite its rather obscure location.

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Grilled Sirloin Steak, Grilled Chicke

The couple-run Western stall has received much praise for its giant portions and delicious food. For example, its Grilled Sirloin Steak (S$10.50), Grilled Chicken Chop (S$8) and Grilled Pork Chop (S$8.50) have been the subject of much conversation.

How’s the food so good? Well, the owners Trina and Tom (whom the stall is named after) are chefs with over 20 years of cooking experience. Tom worked in The Regent Hotel in Hong Kong for a decade and has since channelled his skills into cooking affordable good-quality Western fare.

4. Zi Bu Yang Sheng (Nourishing Mini Hotpot) (#02-94)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Zi Bu Yang Sheng 1

Zi Bu Yang Sheng only opens in the evening, and there’s a constant queue despite the smaller dinner crowd. The main reason for its popularity seems to be its affordable mini mala hotpot sets, which begin from just S$6.

Taman Jurong Food Centre - hotpot

Each Set Meal comes with 4 soup choices: Normal (chicken), Spicy, Tom Yam and Herbal. Select a soup base to go with your chosen set, for which options range from the cheapest Pork Set Meal (S$6) to Prawn (S$6.50) or Beef (S$7.50).

Every set comes with enoki mushrooms, vegetables, vermicelli, fish cake, luncheon meat and egg alongside the meat of choice. Don’t underestimate the portion and quality of the hotpot ingredients; they’re fresh and rather value for money.

Fri to Mon, Wed: 5.30pm – 10pm
Thu: 5.30pm – 11pm
Closed on Tue

5. B.B.Q Seafood (#03-178)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - BBQ Seafood

BBQ Seafood is said to serve the best sambal stingray in Taman Jurong. Judging by the 200+ people on Google reviews that have shot their shot and given it an above 4-star rating, I daresay it does.

Taman Jurong Food Centre - BBQ Seafood dishes

While the Sambal Stingray (S$16/S$12) is the stall’s star dish, they do dish up many other dishes for the seafood lover. Sambal seafood addicts can choose from Sambal Sotong (S$15), Prawn (S$15), BBQ Sole Fish, Red Snapper and Rabbit Fish (S$19) to cure their hunger pangs. There’s even Kang Kong (S$9) for some fibre to cut through all the meat and chilli (if the sambal-coated greens make a difference, anyway).

Still sceptical? Perhaps the list of awards displayed under the menu might change your mind, including our SETHLUI Top 300 Hawker certification.

Mon to Fri: 11.30am – 7.30pm
Sat & Sun: 10am – 7.30pm

6. HOJA Taiwanese Cuisine (#03-122)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - HOJA Taiwanese Cuisine

Founded in Malaysia by a Taiwanese chef, HOJA Taiwanese Cuisine promises to bring authentic “home-cooked” cuisine straight to the doorstep of Singaporeans and Malaysians. This relatively new branch in Taman Jurong is the brand’s first Singapore outlet while its first two are located in JB.

Taman Jurong Food Centre - HOJA overview

HOJA’s Signature is the Tainan Minced Pork Rice Bento (S$7), which comes with 3 sides of mustard greens, cabbage and braised egg. While the portion of meat is small in my opinion, the meaty flavour of the sweet minced braised pork makes up for it.

There are also noodle dishes like Sichuan Mala Braised Beef Soup Noodle (S$9), for which you can select a spice level from Xiaola (mildest) to Dala (strongest). The beef soup is rich enough but sip cautiously because the chilli oil packs a punch.

7. 58 Minced Meat Noodle (#03-150)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - 58 Minced Meat Noodle

Customers queue for up to 30 minutes in the morning just to order from 58 Minced Meat Noodle, a well-known heritage stall in the Food Centre. Established in 1973, it has gained a loyal following due to its famous Bak Chor Mee, which comes in sizes Small (S$4), Medium (S$5) and Large (S$6)

Regulars have dubbed the Signature Minced Meat Noodles as “above average” due to its bouncy noodles and a generous portion of minced meat, liver and pork slices. Instead of stewing their mushrooms for the BCM, the stall sautees a mixture including shiitake and button mushrooms.

Every bowl is topped off with pork lard, and you’re allowed to add however much vinegar, chilli, scallions and white pepper you like to adjust the dish to your preferred taste.

8. Feng Zhen Lor Mee (#03-146)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Feng Zhen Lor Mee

As one of the most popular stalls in Taman Jurong Food Centre, Feng Zhen Lor Mee is often seen with a long queue during operations. This Michelin-Guide lor mee stall is the first of two family-run stalls, the second of which is located in Yew Tee.

While the stall specialises in Traditional Lor Mee (S$4), the Fish Lor Mee (S$5) and Traditional Prawn Noodle (S$4/S$5) are quite popular as well. Especially the Fish Lor Mee – many commend the stall for including pieces of pure fish meat rather than just deep-fried fish batter.

Thick and peppery, the gravy and noodles are best eaten with vinegar and garlic. To add to the meal, you can order 5 pieces of Feng Zhen’s Handmade Prawn Roll for S$6, or a minimum of 2 rolls for S$1.20 each.

10. Taman Jurong Nasi Lemak (#03-167)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Nasi Lemak

Don’t overlook Taman Jurong Nasi Lemak while searching for options on Level 3 of the Food Centre. The regulars highly recommend the humble stall for the fragrant coconut rice and the special homemade chilli. It contains ikan billis (anchovies), which provide the chilli with a nice chew.

11. Le Kitchen Seafood Pao Fan (#03-126)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Le Kitchen Seafood Pao Fan

Pao fan (poached rice) lovers might want to give Le Kitchen Seafood Pao Fan a try, especially with its 4.8-star rating on Google. It’s no wonder given the effort put into the broth, crafted with meat bone seafood that is simmered for hours. This brings out an umami flavour in the soup, which is said to be rich in nutrients and collagen.

Highly recommended options include the Seafood Pao Fan (S$8) and Imperial Seafood Ramen(S$8) – the Seafood Pao Fan is well-loved due to its large portion of big prawns, lala clams and fried fish. Meat lovers can also try the Braised Pork Slices Ramen (S$5), which uses the same soup base but contains pork slices instead.

12. Taj Kitchen (#02-110)

Taman Jurong Food Centre - Taj Kitchen

Taj Kitchen hidden around the side bends of Level 2 is one of the more underrated stalls in Taman Jurong Food Centre. It was started by Singaporean PR Palani Pandi, who was retrenched from his job as a technician back in 2018. After learning the ropes of F&B from working part-time hawker roles, he finally opened his own stall in 2023.

Larger and more generous portions are available as Combos, which cost S$9 or S$10 and consist of meat and curry, rice or noodles, fresh vegetables and nacho cheese fries.
